Denver Post Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 01/01/2007 05:36:46 AM MST

Broncos right cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed this morning after leaving a nightclub near 11th and Grant in a limousine. The team confirmed the death of Williams. A female passenger also was shot, according to a source familiar with Williams.
Williams was 24.
"I learned from the Denver Police Deprtment that this incident has occured," Williams' agent, Jeff Griffin said early Monday morning. "No other details have been released. I sincerely offer my condolences and feelings to his family."
Williams was the Broncos' starting right cornerback and played his final game for the team in a 26-23 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated Denver from the playoffs on New Year's Eve.

Not many details out yet. ESPN doesn't even have it up. But On Mike and Mike on ESPN 2 they are talking to reporters in Denver right now. Should be more details later on. Thanks for the link...

Very... They Said it was a drive-by.
Associated Press

DENVER -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Denver early Monday morning, police said.
Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. Mountain Time from the scene of the shooting and told him three people had been shot and that Williams had been killed.
Saccomano said he spoke with coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization.
"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.
Hours before the shooting, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime, eliminating them from the playoff race.

What a waste. Of a good football player but far more importantly a good person.

Awful, just awful. It's a good thing ESPN.com still had their Bowl Splash Screen up rather than waste more than 2 inches on this story.

Horrible. Couldn't believe it when I saw it. Still can't. You're watching a guy play football one day, and not even 24 hours later, you find out someone killed him.

What a lovely world we live in
