Default Let Joey Harrington ERA begin
Breaking: NFL star Michael Vick indicted in Surry Co. dog-fighting investigation

05:21 PM EDT on Tuesday, July 17, 2007

By 13News
Tuesday a federal court confirmed that NFL star Michael Vick has been indicted in the investigation of dog-fighting on his Surry Co. property.
The investigation began in April when State Police went to the property on Moonlight Road to serve a warrant on Vick's cousin, Davon Boddie. At that time, they found dozens of pit bulls and other dog-fighting equipment.
Further investigation of the property yielded documentation associated with dog-fighting. Later, during a federal search, the carcasses of seven pit-bulls were found on the property.
Paperwork filed in July revealed that federal investigators accused Bad News Kennels of running dog-fighting events in several areas in Virginia, in addition to fights in four other states, saying the events had been happening since 2002.
Friday, July 6th, a second search was conducted of the ground around the house, but the results of that search have not yet been released.

He would make an excellent backup for Joey.

He usually holds the offense to seven or less, would be an upgrade over Mesa.

Here's the link to the Smoking Gun. It is 18 pages, so I won't post the whole thing here.

The indictment gets long and somewhat boring, but it includes saying that dogs were executed by shooting, drowning, hanging, slamming them on the ground and if it could get any worse, wetting them down and electrocuting them.

Those dudes can go to hell. I hope PETA follows Vick around and throws red paint on him everytime he goes outside.

i've seen parts of it...vick gives approval before the eletrocute losign dogs, he's paid bags of cash....

dog fighting is a nasty business...

Part of the training involves slitting a dog from ear to ear on the top of their necks to get them to bleed and get the other dogs to go for the neck.

another thing they do is starve the dog for about a week, attach two dogs to car axle that is burried and keep them just far apart so they cant reach..they cut one of the dogs so teh starving dog can smell blood and get it to drag the axle out of the ground

Not to mention the "rape stands" that they use to force dogs to mate so they can breed more fighting dogs.

The feds have something like a 93% conviction rate -- at least I that's what I read in some legal newspaper awhile back.

I think if he is convicted of this, he'll spend at least some time in jail.

The feds aren't like the state/municipal courts that give people huge breaks.

If Martha Stewart can go to jail, so can Michael Vick.

That's an interesting comparison.

The indictment says that at least one of those was found on the property.

It doesn't look good for Vick. They also charged him with conspiracy, which means he can be guilty of an act even if he wasn't there. Starting with the fact that he bought the property and paid for the improvements (including sheds, a fence to conceal the activity and a house for the people running the ring to live in), it will be tough to argue that he didn't at least conspire to do the acts -- which means he can be guilty of the acts even if he wasn't there. But the indictment also says he was present during many of the acts.
