i dont think so, i think if it's all in state, it's handeled in state...
You're correct.

Here's a tidbit of info I found.

Dogfighting is a felony in Virginia and 47 other states. Transporting dogs over state lines for dogfighting is a federal crime.

Yes, but would it change the severity in which this is prosecuted? Its sad if the answer is yes.
Federal crimes are always serious crime. I don't think there is a such thing as a federal misdemeanor. All I know is that crossing state lines while committing a crime is one of the dumbest things you could do.

I thought dog fighting was ALREADY considered a federal crime, or are you talking about the gambling?
Animal fighting can be prosecuted at the state level.

Feds can afford real good attorneys too.
Federal prosecutors are some of the best attorneys in the country. And they are notorious for being hardasses.

The bottom line is that he started up a Bad Newz Kennels company in order for this dog fighting operation, and brought dogs from across state lines to do this.

That is why its considered a federal crime now.

Absolutely -- he wouldn't have been in this deep of shit if he had just bought dogs in state and only fought other in state dogs.

Yep, I found the answer I was looking for.

I wasn't sure actually, which is why I was asking.

I thought it was, and I was wrong.

He's still look like a walking turd of a human being. With the money he makes, it's curious that he chose to get into such a despicable business.

Given the recent Duke Lacrosse crap that went on, you have to assume the feds were VERY deliberate before indicting him.

They also took their dogs out of state to fight in other states.

So would that count as two separate charges, or even more charges, like one charge per dog they could prove that crossed state lines?

Or does it all fall under the umbrella of charges of animal cruelty for everything?

That was a state indictment. The feds are ALWAYS deliberate -- there is a reason they have a 95% (according to Len Pasquerelli) success rate. They don't bring things up for indictment and prosecution unless they are almost positive they are going to win.

Roy Jones Jr has been involved in cock fighting for a longtime.

Also, there are reports that this is a pretty common thing amongst NFL and NBA players.

In other words, there is more than just Vick involved in these things although they might not have run the entire operation, or done the heinous things that he did.

Vick probably needs the Chewbacca defense to get out of this one.

Okay, gotcha.

I knew it was a state indictment in the Duke thing, but thought it might have some influence into how things were handled.

I think it is an umbrella thing -- buying/transporting dogs for the purpose of fighting. As far as I can tell, it isn't on an individual dog level -- just an overall charge against running a dogfighting business.

It wasn't like they went out looking for this -- I think they were on a drug raid and found all the dogs and all the other stuff.
