Falcons @ Saints

This is the game many of us have been waiting for, especially those in New Orleans

U2 and Green Day will be performing pre-game, as the 2-0 Saints face the 2-0 Falcons

Go Saints

I wonder if people in New Orleans have really been waiting for this? Most of the ones effected by the storm can't afford the tickets to go to the game and probably haven't moved back into the city.

That's what I was thinking as well, as I watched Sports Center earlier in the evening and the overwhelming majority of fans outside the stadium were rich whites

I'm sure the people in the poorer parts are looking forward to just watching the game wherever they might be right now and feel some connection and pride to their city

Exactly I think we as a country (and the press) make it a feel good story 'oh the opening of the dome and the city can rejoice' but I doubt katrina victims really feel the same way. Yea maybe they feel pride in their city and team but the reopening of a building they'll never go to and probably only been to during the hurricane. Doubt it means much to them.

Either way I hope the saints do good this year but my backup team is the falcons so I gotta root for them tonight.

The locals seemed happy to me,the ones they showed playing "When the Saints Go Marching Home" and the highschool band. But I Agree, who where did the fans that did go to the Game? Were they New Orleans' residents or were they from other area's or both? Im sure they were not all residents of NO and especially not the poorest ones. But all in all its nice to see the team back in Nawlins..

Good win for the Saints..

You could tell just by looking at the white people that they were rich? Wow, you must have special powers.

Wonder no longer.

80% of the city was "affected" by the storm. I doubt only 20% of the people of New Orleans are the ones that have sold out the SuperDome for the entire season.

What does NO do besides tourism? How do you attract tourism with nothing open? With nothing open, how do people have jobs? If nobody has jobs, how do people get paid to rebuild and live in NOLA?

The parts of the state in the vicinity of NOLA that didn't get hit by Katrina got hit by Rita. Katrina hit the east, Rita hit the west, and the center got hit by both. So, if anyone came from Southern Louisiana, they were storm victims. 12 feet of water victims? Probably not. But storm victims nonetheless.

Oh, and Tony Kornheiser is the best announcer ever.

I think that Tony and Joe T will throw down in the booth before the season is over.

That's the best part about it.

Joe Theismann: I think the Saints will run the ball here. They have to. It's the only thing they can do.

Tony Kornheiser: Hey Joe! I thought you said they had to run here. They had to run the football. They threw the ball, and they got the first down. That's NOT what you said they would do!

Redemption.

How about when Joe said that because the field was so soft, "the runners will have to keep their feet under them" and Tony says something like, "Where do they usually keep them, Joe?"

There was another one like that in the 4th Q too.

I'm not a big Tony fan but if he can toss some of the BS back in Theisman's face, it might be worth listening to the audio this season.

My favorite.

Joe: That was a nice catch. The receiver caught the ball with his hands.

Tony: As opposed to catching it with what, his feet?

That's why I love Tony in the booth. Even though at times he struggles to really get his thoughts in, he will just destroy Theismann if he says something idiotic. It's about goddamn time someone does.

Lolita Palmer 09-26-2006 03:56 PM

I enjoyed the bit where Theisman said something about the ref pulling it out of his pants.

"Teams should hire assistant coaches to throw the flag and run down the field to call timeouts. They could hire Joe Theismann to throw the flags, you have a good arm, Joe."

"I'm glad this guy is doing well tonight, because I started him on my fantasy team. He and Alge Crumpler are starting for me. I need big games from both of them."

Thanks L. That was the other one I was trying to think of.

LOL, what a maroon.
