I'm digging up an old discussion but: Does anyone else think Barry Sanders could still be a 1000 yard rusher in today's NFL?

Obviously, I'm not claiming "my list is right and everyone else's is wrong" I just wanted to backup my argument with some tangible facts. |
1. Jim Brown - utter dominance of the league for the few years he played
2. Emmet Smith - that's right I'm a lions fan and put him ahead of Barry, he's got the record, barry doesn't and don't get me started on the "if barry kept his pace..." 3. Sweetness 4. Barry Sanders - had moves upon moves, one of the best football players i have seen in my lifetime (23 years) 5. Erick Dickerson 6. Marcus Allen 7. Earl Campbell 8. OJ 9. Gale Sayers 10. Marshall Faulk |
1. Your word is not final I concede....regrettably...
2. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion I agree. 3. Taking hostility to something that CAN NOT be proven through tangible testing is a waste of time. I claim statistical analysis as my proof. You provide me 1 other fan that states Barry is out of the top ten...I provide you 1000 to the contrary. Shall we take a poll? 4. If you think blocking is not required or an asset that a RB must have. Ask the countless fromer college RBs who are now busy saying "Would you like fries with that?" if their inability to block and pick up the blitz correctly made a difference in their getting cut. We are comparing great NFL backs to each other...not NFL failures to Thurman Thomas. Barry blocked well enough to STILL be considered GREAT (as in, top 10)by a STRONG MAJORITY of football fans. 5. Until you are registered and I see you at one of the National Mensa conventions, you have nothing on me. Even more a knock in the fact that you are in a society for intelligence, attach that name to the word "sports" and yet make such a ridiculous statement and provide (1) biased commentary and (2) incorrect information. |
1. Barry Sanders
2. Walter Payton 3. Jim Brown 4. Marcus Allen 5. Emmitt Smith 6. Curtis Martin 7. Marshall Faulk 8. Jerome Bettis 9. O.J. Simpson 10. John Riggins Not having seen some of the older guys play, this is the best list I could compile from my knowledge and from old footage I have seen. |

Mensa,
You are entitled to your semantic-driven opinion. *twitches* My opinion is that you have no basis for your opinion other than dislike....which is apparant in your statement to Lions fans to "breathe." I would ONLY say something like that to a cheesehead...I guarantee this. |

Thurman Thomas?!? You would take Thurman Thomas over Barry Sanders? You sure that "mensa" isn't computer for "expert"?!? |

1) Barry Sanders- I give him the nod as the best over Walter because he didnt have the line, the defense, or any other help and he won games alone. Some of the best moves i have ever seen.
2) Walter Payton 3) Jim Brown 4) Marshall Flauk- Complete back, total yards, former rushing TD champion. 5) Emmit Smith- Never should have beat the record in my opinion, he stuck around and made teams worse because he wanted the record. 6) OJ- So he killed his wife.... big deal. You don't know how many times i have wanted to put some gloves on and say "hello honey, i'm home" and "HERES JOHNNY!!!". Hes still one of the best. 7) Erik Dickerson 8) Marcus Allen 9) Curtis Martin 10) Priest Holmes :P ( i am also a homer) 10) Bettis "THE BUS" |

I should say that I hate lists like this.
It's almost impossible to compare these players. It's like apples to oranges to tomatos to grapes...and so on. All of these running backs were great (even Emmit "I can't get one yard on the Eagles on third, fourth, fourth down" Smith). Each player on each list is probably better than any other player in some aspect of the game. Whole lot of self-righteousness on these here boards. I just can't wait for football season to start. *ceases bitching and moaning* |
