Default Canon EOS 300D
What would you say was a reasonable used price for this with the Canon Standard Lens, 512mb compact flash card, charger and 2x battery?

Oh in GBP (£££)...

Well it depends how used (in terms of shutter activations), and how old it it overall, but as a rough guess I would reckon somewhere in the region of 300-320 gbp.

I listed mine once on ebay about 2 months ago (with the battery grip, plus remote, plus cable release, plus two extra batteries, and kit lens), and it made about 375gbp, which was just short of my 400 reserve).

Why do shutter activations matter, and is there any way of telling how many it has had?

It matters, because the shutter components are rated for a certain number of activations before failure. I think for the 300D its about 10,000 activations. Replacing the shutter parts costs about 150gbp.

You can get a rough idea based on the number assigned to the last image file you shot with the camera (provided you've not reset the numbering at any time), as they are numbered sequentially, but I'm not sure if its possible to get a value direct from the camera software itself.

I'm not completely sure (I still have it though - its my backup camera). I think I may have taken about 2500 ish or thereabouts, - in about 1.5 years. It could easily be more though.
