Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

Amazon left me a present in my mailbox today with the new Coldplay album. [thumbup] I'm very impressed. It seems the style has changed some but its still very Coldplay. Anyone else get this album? What do you think?

I can't rate the album as a whole yet beacuse I can't get past track 3. Not beacuse it's bad, because track 3 is so good. I love it. Lost! is the track name and there's an acoustic version later on in the album.

Chris Martin at this point gets on my nerves so much I don't think I can really enjoy Coldplay. Violet Hill is a good song though.

Best album I've heard in a while tbh

Death and all of his friends towards the end is beautiful

Could not agree more. I'm very impressed by every track on it [thumbup]

Will listen to it later and post my views.

Would I be disappointed if I bought the album after listening to Violet Hill a handful of times?

I do tend to like their earlier work as well, although X&Y simply didn't cut it IMO.

From what I've heard it sound like the kind of lame almost rock that U2 have taken to producing in recent times. That said I've found Coldplay pretentious unimpressive tripe since '99. Plus they forever cheapened Computer Love by Kraftwerk.

To each his own [yes] I'm most certainly biased! I've always liked Coldplay http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

I really like the album, took a few listens but there are some great tracks on there;

Life in Technicolour
42
Lover's in Japan
Violet Hill
Viva la Vida
Strawberry Swing

its not that radical a departure as the press would have you belive, Brian Eno has over-produced the tracks somewhat, but no worse than Radiohead have in recent times.

Not sure if anyone caught Coldplay Live at the BBC recently, it was up on the iPlayer for a while. It was a really good concert, I really liked the live version of Lost, sounds a lot more 'raw' than the album version.

I ripped the audio from the concert so I can listen to it on my mp3 player. its good stuff.

I just listened to the album and I agree. It's much better than their previous efforts but still rather uneventful, safe and totally forgettable. The reason it sounds like U2 is because it was produced by Brian Eno who has been producing U2 for years now. Unluckily for Coldplay, sounding like U2 is not a good thing these days.
