Anyone using or ever used this lense, looking for a new lense for my d40x. Already got a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 and a cheap Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6, the new lense replacing my current Sigma lense as it's just no good for sports shots and low light situations.
They're selling on ebay for £391 from Hong Kong, but with £45 delivery but it's still so much cheaper than somewhere like Warehouse Express. |

That's generally considered to be a very reliable and high quality lens by most in the community, but you may consider the regular, non-macro version if you can find one. I'm told the AF on the non-macro is a little bit more reliable and faster, and it should be a little bit cheaper. If you're intent on doing some macro work you could simply purchase a separate macro lens or even some extension tubes with all the money you save on this. Check out these review on FM (the other FM).

Well, keep in mind that people are often much better motivated by anger and frustration in a product than they are by general pleasure in it. It's just like any review you'd find anywhere on the net; those who feel strongly are more likely that speak out than those who have no steadfast opinion. Also, I'd chalk up some of the reviews to user error and unrealistic expectations.
At the end of the day I'd suggest that it's a solid lens that could really be a staple in your lineup. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if you don't need lightning fast AF for sports or other action photography. |
