A friend is trying to recover pictures from a memory card. He has recovered 50 of a total of 80 pictures without a problem. The other 30 are there, but the files are missing the JPG header which is necessary to be able to open them.
Once again: the picture data is there for the remaining 30 pictures, all that is missing is the JPG header. Missing could just as well be interpreted as corrupt. Does anyone know how to restore the headers? |

Try Irfan View, it may be able to correct it. If you tried that already, then nm... sorry.

He sent me a couple of images so I could have a closer look at them. I just tried to open them in Irfanview like you suggested, but to no avail [no]
I've been reading about the structure of the headers and looking at the byte codes, the pictures seem to be there somewhere. The downside is that data for one pic seems to be distributed across several files. After a couple of tries with a hex editor, I managed to retrieve parts of 1 picture... |
