Some lens reccomendations please!
Hey, well i got a DSLR a few weeks back in a jessops closing down sale, heres what i got:-
Samsung GX1S 18-55mm lens 50-200mm lens Circular polariser 2500 amh fast charge batteries Camera bag all for the sum of £319.99, not a bad deal i thaught. Anyway looking for some lens reccomendations to expand my creativity, probabaly looking at a nice wide angle lens, and something for shooting in low light. what would you reccomend? (btw it has a pentax lens mount) |
Personally I'd use the lenses you have for now and then see which focal lengths you like/use the most, or if you feel restricted by them (ie. need a longer/shorter length) Then you'll be in a better position to spend your money well and you'll also get more comfortable with your new camera.

The two lens you have cover a decent focal range. Any lens you buy in the future will likely cover part of the same range - and will be more expensive. Shoot for a while to decide what focal length you have the most use for in a new lens, then make a decision. |
just on a side note, if you find a closing down jessops there are some real bargains to be had. I picked up a brand new Tamron 28-200 mm F3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical (IF) Macro lens for £74 (Retail at around £200-£230) from the one in Milton Keynes
Chuffin bargain!!! I cant wait for the ones round by me to start closing so i can go grab some more stuff. |
What is your budget? I advise you to subscribe on www.pentaxforums.com. It's a very friendly and great forum.

While you have an expansive range with your lens collection, what you're lacking is aperture.
I would also use the two lenses you have first to see which focal length you prefer, and get a fast prime of that focal length. Personally, I think the 50mm F/1.4 is a great lens to start out with. You could find really great used ones on ebay for cheap. I got the Pentax-M SMC 50mm F/1.4 for $60 on ebay. It's an amazing lens. The image quality far surpasses any of my zooms, and at F/1.4, I could take pictures in pretty much the dimmest conditions without flash. The bokeh is just so soft and appealing. And with the APS crop, the 50mm becomes a 75mm, making it a great portrait lens. To top it off, it also makes an amazing macro lens with a relatively inexpensive set of extension tubes. It would provide macros comparable to dedicated macro lenses that cost several hundred dollars. example If you're looking for a wide angle lens, a very economical one with very high quality optics is the Russia Zenitar 16mm F/2.8 fisheye. If you don't like the fisheye, you could always use ptlens or photoshop to remove the fisheye effect. If you have a lot of money to burn, about as much as you've spent so far, the 12-24mm Pentax is one of the best wideangle zooms of its class. For more great lens deals, check out Pentax's extremely wide selection of high quality manual focus primes on ebay. It's one of Pentax's greatest strengths. The finely handcrafted mechanical all-metal pieces. It's a true pleasure to use. |
