How do I make a very light background white?

I have a couple of scans were the background is a light purple with loads of text in the forground. How can I make the light purple white?

I have Paint shop pro 7 and picasa if that helps

Under Paint Shop pro if you go under your contrast adustments there should be a black/white options. It gives three options where you match white, grey, and black from the picture.
