Indian Air Force will opt for a single seat 5th generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) as the two seater will cost $2 billion more. In 2011, Air Chief had said that India will buy 166 single and 48 two seat fighters. However, the cost has escalated since 2010. Project cost was $ 25 billion, or one hundred million dollars per aircraft. Now the new requirement is 200 single seaters for $30-35 billion.
T-50 FGFA is advertised to be 22.6 meters in lenght, height - 5.9 meters and a maximum takeoff weight - 34 tons. Aircraft engines have individual thrust vector control. It will have a ferry range of 4,000 to 5,500 km (2,485 to 3,418 mi) and a speed of 2 mach (2.3 thousand kilometers per hour). As per Russian Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, 600 aircraft's are expected to be built. 200 each for Indian and Russian Air forces. 200 more aircraft's will be available for third countries which are yet to be named. |
