The Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Textiles, Anand Sharma aboard Indian frigate INS Teg, which is on its maiden voyage. INS Teg parade alongwith the German Frigate Mecklenberg Vorprommen made its first port of call in Hamburg on the occasion of 823rd Harbour Birthday Celebrations of Hamburg Port on May 11, 2012.

Army personnel of 47 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion & 160 Territorial Army Battalion came to the rescue of passengers of a bus near Nutnussa. The bus was moving from Kupwara to Sopore. The bus lost control and fell into a canal. The army personnel who were on duty immediately got activated to rescue the passengers and provided them first aid. Thereafter, they were rushed to the nearest hospital. The timely assistance and medical help extended by the Army, including the recovery of the bus from the canal, was another example of the Army Jawan in the service of the people.

Majestic 5.5 inch gun at the Raj Bhavan, Gangtok
These guns were manufactured in the United Kingdom and are of vintage 1941-45. They were used by more than a dozen countries including the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, Iraq, India and Pakistan. These guns were used during World War-II, the Korean War and many other conflicts. Weighing over 6000 kgs, the gun fired 45 kg shell over 16 kms at the rate of 2 shells per minute. These guns were released after a series of approvals at various levels, with final sanction being given by the Defence Minister, on behalf of the President of India. This was made possible due to the keen interest shown by the Governor of Sikkim, Balmiki Prasad Singh, the diligence of 17 Mountain Division and the support provided by GOC 33 Corps, Lt. General K. Surendranath, AVSM, SM, VSM. |
