Default Low Thia Khiang continues to put down Chen Show Mao inside WP
Against expectation and wishes of the general public, Low Thia Khiang continues to put down Chen Show Mao as a mere ordinary member of the CEC without holding any position.

Chen Show Mao had given up his multi-million $$$$ pay job and a cutting-edge profession at the prime of his career so as to remain an ordinary calefare member of WP CEC ???!!!

With a stellar qualifications, impeccable credentials and astonishing accomplishment, Chen continues to hold no position inside both the Party and Town Council. For more than 1 year, he has remained jobless, just like Tin Pei Ling.

Like Tin, what has Chen been cho bo lan for the past 1 year? This is a very gross mutilation and utter abuse of rare talent, even if he is a half foreign talent.

What a waste....

Who will ever dare to join the WP. If a person as talented as Chen was inexplicably held back, how much further can others, who are much less talented, ever to progress inside the byzantine court of WP?

Reminds me of a guy who was so concerned that his neighbour's wife was not getting enough sex. TS should be more concerned about his own household. And there are many concerns such as PAP scraping the bottom of the barrel with TPL, the lost of a GRC, cabinet minister kicked out, 2 MOS out of a job, etc etc.

" Political service is a calling; it is a privilege accorded by the electorate to serve the largest number of our fellow Singaporeans. It is primarily a privilege, not primarily a burden or sacrifice. The principle of political service should come first and not be treated as a discount factor," Chen Show Mao.

Chen Show Mao was elected into the WP CEC with the largest number of cadre 'electorate' votes according to report. Yet he defied the wishes of Party 'electorates' to be given the 'privilege' of a CEC post ? Where is his political 'calling' ? Is he treating the CEC post as a 'burden or sacrifice' ?

It seems that, for Chen, the principal service does not come first and is being treated as a discount factor.

I still think it is because WP doesn't know where to fit him and not because Chen did not want it. Chen and Glenda have effectively become the lowest ranking CEC members, a cause for concern because Chen is an MP but Glenda is not and Chen was the stellar factor of Aljunied's victory. The other concern is whether WP would know how to use future Chens who are way above the typical opposition's rank-and-file types.

Remind me of the good honest Hougang people who have learnt their lesson the hard painful way, the uniquely WP way.

They were not concerned about their former MP's houshold and least concerned whether that Yaw 鬼 was not getting enough sex.

As such, that Yaw 寿仔 led a sex crusade to hunt down every single Hammerrhoid MILFs he could ever find inside the Party, screwing them behind their husbands' back relentlessly.

Being unconcerned about their MP's personal live had brought shame and anger to the people of Hougang.

Contrary to what some forummers here assert, some of PAP's biggest porlumpar political analysts feel differently.

Political analysts give the thumbs up to WP's newly-elected CEC

The Workers’ Party (WP) has unveiled four new office bearers for the term of 2012 to 2014 following its Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting on 4 September.

Frieda Chan Sio Phing (deputy treasurer), Jane Leong (Vice-Chair to the WP media team), Lee Li Lian (deputy webmaster), and Muhamad Faisal bin Abdul Manap (president of the WP Youth wing) were appointed after the Council met on Tuesday evening.

The senior leadership of the WP remains unchanged – Sylvia Lim remains Chairman, while Low Thia Kiang is still Secretary-General of the WP and Yee Jenn Jong, Treasurer.

Chan, 36, is an National University of Singapore (NUS) graduate with double majors in social work and sociology. She previously represented Singapore in 1998 to 1999 at the Korea-ASEAN Future-Oriented Cooperation Youth Exchange Programme.

Leong, 53, is now assisting the chair of the media team, Gerald Giam. A managing director of a small-medium enterprise, she also doubles up as the editorial co-ordinator of WP’s newsletter “The Hammer”.

Lee, 34, is no new face to party members. She first volunteered with WP during the 2006 General Elections.

Muhamad Faisal, 36, has been with the party for almost six years now and is an advisor to the Aljunied Constituency Committee. He works as a counsellor with a voluntary welfare organisation.

Commenting on the changes, political analyst Bridget Welsh said, “There are three trends noticeable – first there is a process of broadening taking place with greater inclusion of women and more multiethnic representation, especially Malays.”

“Second, the key leaders Low and Lim remain in place and remain in core leadership positions, so they will continue to set the direction for the party as they have in recent years. This illustrates a steady hand in leadership without significant detours from recent trajectories.”

“Third, many of the new members of parliament are given less party leadership roles so that they can focus on their roles as parliamentarians. The pattern of the Worker’s Party has been to focus on social issues affecting ordinary Singaporeans while simultaneously calling for greater alternative voices in governance.”

The associate professor in political science at the Singapore Management University added, “This current line-up suggests that this will continue to be their direction, while giving more space for younger leaders to rise. The people to watch are the newcomers, especially the party’s new youth leader, and, of course, members of parliament who will continue to be the most prominent public faces for the party.”

Nominated Member of Parliament Eugene Tan agreed.

“I see the new line-up as a conscious refinement of the strategic division of labour within the party,” he said. “The accent is on youth, with 8 out of 15 CEC members being under the age of 40 years. I see it as a team primed for the consolidation of the WP following a successful 2011 GE. The line-up seeks to expose the young non-MPs within the CEC to new challenges, which would also enable them to play a more prominent role within the party.”

Tan, who is also an associate professor at SMU, said the changes would allow WP MPs like Chen Show Mao and Pritam Singh, as well as Png Eng Huat, to focus on constituency work, town council matters, as well as parliamentary work.”

Gillian Koh, senior research fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy said the new committee changes were a conscious effort to “save the bandwidth” of the WP MPs.

“It is no mean feat for an opposition party to have to take charge of these (administering the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council). WP would want to prove that it can do the job well... There continues to be a high level of expectation placed on these WP MPs with regard to their work in Parliament. That is another duty they will have to reserve some bandwidth for.”

The more the people continue to hail Chen Show Mao as their future PM, the more discomfort and fearful Low Thia Khiang continues to feel, and the more he will continue to suppress and stifle Chen’s rising star.

The continued presence of secret squirrels among his Party leadership hierarchy continues to deepen Low’s notorious paranoid suspicion.

Has Low done anything to stop his secret squirrels from copying and leaking the Party secrets? Or is his reshuffle and reappointment of CEC posts a ruthless attempt to purge the secret squirrels out of the Party leadership? Did Low suspect Chen for being one of the secret squirrels?

Perhaps, Low Thia Khiang continues to hold down Chen Show Mao for fear of the latter plotting a party coup against him just as he did against JBJ.

For his rather short stint as WP chief in the past 10 years, there has been a ridiculous number of people being appointed by Low into the party CEC posts as well as an even more ridiculous number of people being ultimately shoved out. Either Low has a very poor judgment of character or he is totally intolerant of capable talents.

Thus, Low Thia Khiang’s motto for political talents is best summed up as follow:

“疑人必用, 用人必疑”…..

When your opponents start to praise you for something that is not so obvious or even counter-intuitive, you better watch out!

These observers are referring to the division of manpower. I agree with them and must admit I was taken by surprise that WP was capable of such a division when it used to prefer "top-heavy" appointments in the past.

This, along with the laisse faire approach of handling its 8 MPs instead of dictating what they say in parliament, has moved me to be more supportive of WP.

However, there is no doubt that Chen's empty portfolio stands out like a sore thumb. One way is for Sylvia Lim to give way to Chen in the Aljunied CC grassroots where SL serves as co-chairman. She has 3 chairmen portfolios.

The other sore thumb is the vacant assistant secretary general. But it would also be advantageous to wait and fill in the post only after a new potential secretary general is found. Right now I don't see anyone and don't think Pritam or Gerald Giam makes the cut.

The top three positions are filled by party veterans. So where to put him? Other than the SG, Chairman & VC, the rest of the portfolios are peripheral positions. If he is as good as many think he is, putting him in these lesser posts is an insult to him. Why not just keep him as a council member then?

I feel that we shouldn’t read too much into this new lineup.

On another note, Muhamad Faisal’s appointment as Youth Wing President is a surprise. I think it’s a shrewd move. Perhaps, after NSP & SDP, WP is also eyeing the Malay votes?
