Yes, Michelle is a quality candidate. It's good for WP to continue to attract quality and go for more GRCs. The PAP looks very vulnerable now and is ill equipped for the next GE.
Michelle is a good candidate, that I very much agree.

However, joining WP is not a garanteed appreoach for her to be selected to be a candidate. The present WP always have the practise of selecting candidates of whom had shown commitment through grassroots activities.

Lets wait and see if she had the stamina to last for such hard work required of her.

I think WP's or LTK's approach is tied in with what the voters want and also what the PAP has indoctrinated the voters to want. But seeing that Tin Pei Ling, Heng Swee Kiat etc, can be parachuted in and the grassroots work but a wayang show, it's time voters learn also to give breadth to the oppositon parties and look at possibility of fielding more such strong good candidates locally to fight issues nationally. So therefore whilst keeping grassroots work as important yet making allowance now and then so that the national stage issues can be better fought - similarly parachuting in the capable on the coattails of GRC winners ala PAP.

Michelle is a good candidate, that I very much agree.

I can bet with you that Michelle will be fielded if she wants to. She has got the credentials and GE scars to qualify. WP must be nuts if they insist on grassroots activities. There is no candidates with that sort qualifiactions beating at WP doors

The grassroots pre-requisite is for the lesser qualified candidates and it is indeed a good proving ground.

If WP and its supporters keep talking about the grassroots activities pre-requisite, it may turn away potential A grade candidates who don't have the time.

The single most important function of a political party is to get good people into parliament to represent their ward. It is not do social or grassroots works.

Commitment to grassroots work serves 2 functions (1) remove the wheat from the chaff and (2) engage the people to receive their votes.

Michelle is obviously in the wheat category and her name and her previous GE experience and exposure will get votes. Any additional grassroots work is a bonus but not as important or crucial as someone will lesser profile.

Its is imporant that the tail does not wag the dog and WP must also not send out that message. I say this because that is the message that is going out. There are alot of brainy and sharp people out there and doing many important things. They might not come forward if WP keeps drumming in the grassroots focus.

Grassroots/MTP sessions came from Francis Thomas, bless his soul but for some reason it has taken on a life of its own. Parliament once the seat is captured seems secondary. We need to be sure that this is not true or if that is only a perception it is wiped out.

Hope this is taken in the spirit that it is given.

I still have such fond memories of Michelle Lee and her soothing intelligent speeches, even after defeat at the polls.
I find Michelle very attractive. My type.

This says alot about usurper Chee's leadership.
This says alot about you doggie. The ISD dog without fail still targeting its master PAP's most hated enemy.

Noticed other than this doggie stuffychute, the dogs with IDs commenting here are having the lowest points! These dogs are sent to beef up the clearasses and stuffchutists against the pro-opposition.

Good to see them doggies early so we know who they are in future elections.

Tanjong Pagar is a better bet than East Coast. With the bastard not even capable of cleaning his own ass it is very unlikely that the PAPzi will want to put him as a candidate at Tanjong Pagar. That leaves the PAPzis very thin and weak.

Boss, can enlighten me on why CSJ is hated by so many here? I understand why brainwashed PAPzi supporters would hate him. But why do the predominantly opposition-supporting crowd here feel the same towards him? It beggars belief, really. Who else has sacrificed more for the freedoms and rights of Singaporeans than him? Low Thia Kiang, the pseudo-opposition?

Because he has done 1 thing we Chinese cannot forgive, bite the hands that feed him. Maybe the truth is not what the media has reported. Perhaps you can enlighten us.

Easy. The predominantly WP-supporting (note: not 'opposition-supporting') crowd here hate CSJ for 3 main reasons:

1. They blame him for ousting CST from SDP. Actually it was the work of the senior CEC members like Ling and Cheo - then-party-newbie CSJ was just a pawn in their hands ... but WP supporters are generally not known to be very sophisticated in sifting fact from fiction. CST was ousted, CSJ took over as Sec-Gen, therefore CSJ usurped the throne.

2. They are generally put off by CSJ's consistent stance on human rights and democracy and decry his early advocacy of non-violent civil disobedience to fight for basic freedoms of speech and association, and free and fair elections. No less a personage than Aung San Suu Kyi has said that democratic institutions are the fundamental guarantee of basic human rights. But folks here are brainwashed by the Pappies into thinking that confrontational politics is destructive, and that the best way of dethroning the fascists in power is to not rock the system and gain one opposition seat in parliament every decade by playing according to the PAP's rules.

3. CSJ has been persistently demonized by the MSM through the years, for obvious reasons. Intelligent people generally don't give much credence to the drivel churned out by state-sponsored whores, but there are many here who are taken in hook, line & sinker and believe that he really is the madman as portrayed by the media.

By the way, be careful: labelling LTK as pseudo-opposition could earn you a few infraction points from some of the mad dogs here.

1) It is a fact that Chee wanted the leadership. He ousted Chiam. And he along with his pro-Chee mates nearly kicked Chiam out of parliament.

2) Please show me a country that has strong development and equity due to strong human rights in historical perspective. Read Ha-Joon Chang's Bad Samaritans, 23 things they dont tell you about capitalism and even Joseph Stiglitz. Since when has evne Chee's financial supporters in the West demonstrated Human Rights? Guantanamo anyone?

3) CChiam time: 4 seats in parliament. Chee time: 0, 0 and dereasing share of the votes.

To the people, it is more important to see stronger opposition. All Good condidate should be united to end those nonsense "opposition is not ready".
One step at a time, as it takes time to see a dynasty fall.

Motherly somemore!

With Michelle and Glenda in the WP, maybe I should just visit their HQ at Syed Alwi Rd and get an application form to become a WP member.

Btw, the noodle stall just below their HQ not too bad. Open 24/7. Many HFJs there and at Maude Rd.

It's a Sinkie, simplistic fallacy that the "West" = "USA" and that "Singaporeans values" = "Asian values".
