His grand debut preceded even this. Remember the Sentosa Cable car incident where the freighter Vladisvostock got its mast entangled with the cable suspension wires? He was then a Colonel. For a solid day, the cable cars with its passenegers hung precariously over the Keppel waters and no Army generals dared to come fwd. Eventually, a rescue was attempted and even then by a foreign team. When everything is back on solid land, then only our hero Col LHL stepped out and walked off into the sunset, bathed in glory.

He does take credit for his unique leadership. He will never raise his head above the parapet. He waits for the dust, the noise and the debris to settle then he comes out with measured words of wisdom. Remember the calls from everyone when there was radio silence during the Mas Selamat epsiode. And he is an Army General.

Reminds me of the Australian Army chief who abandoned his men and post in Simgapore and fled by boat to OZ claiming that he can be more effective from OZ. He was the only army chief that was not interned in Changi by the Japanese.

His father would in the first place would not have allowed Mr Mas Selamet to escape and if he did everyone would have have to pay the price.

Hero my foot. The real hero was NOT a Sinkie but an Aussie pilot who properly became a Commodore (BG equivalent) unlike this fake General.

Initially I thought it was just fluke that he was assigned. When Hotel New World collapsed and the second son in the army was given a role in the rescue, you realise that it is stage managed. Got a medal for it. Sadly these guys build a profile on other people's misery.

Knowing how the civil service operates, you can bet your last dollar LHL had a tua pek kong on 24/7 standby in case the rescue ops failed.

The 154th and mediacorpse continue to attribute the rescue to the RSAF. The inquiry into the mishap was a joke.

LHL will be around for another 4-8 years. They are now looking for the biggest por lum par to warm the seat for the next 2 possibly 3 elections until the emperor's grandson lands miraculously onto the seat.

5 smrt staff and tunneling experts were honored in an official dinner hosted by yeo ning hong: 3 irish, 1 brit, 1 sinkie. the saf officer who was best remembered and honored during the rescue operation was ltc lim meng kin, chief medical officer then. saf only provided equipment and vehicles plus the medical teams under ltc lim. the scdf provided most of the manpower. the ft's (smrt tunnelers) provided the leadership and out of box thinking in the whole rescue. the sinkie smrt staff, tan jin thong, was the token sinkie in the smrt team. relying on the gringos was not staged. in such a situation, any expert help would do. lucky to have smrt tunnelers around then. no time and plan to stage for any lee. that's conspiracy theory.

That, I will not disagree.

Sgns are really dogs. You can whack, belittle and scold a dog, and it will still be wagging his tail happily following you wherever you lead it.

Cheers!
Hougang residents have shown that Singaporeans r not dogs. It's the grassroots and PA who are dogs. U will see true Singaporeans grit at the next GE

PE 2011..35% Singaporeans voted for pap's candidate
BE Hougang 2012..38% voted for PAP's candidate.

If you still dont know what kind of support and respect LHL commands, I rest my case.

Does LHL dare fight the next GE one vs one? If he dare not, he will never command respect

LHL lacks leadership qualities and chose lightweight people to be in his Cabinet eg WKS, LSS, LBH, RL, MBT, VB, LHH. See how he was proven wrong and so many of them had to be booted out

I agree with you. If the rescue had failed, the RSAF, not LHL, would have taken the flak

LHL is stressed. LHL cant handle PM's job.

Is it better for him to quit? Would quitting be disastrous for his ego!

So what is the best way out for LHL without making him look like a failure?
Lee Hsien Loong is a military general. This is supposedly the most powerful military establishment in the region. He had made our country and military a sick joke.

You are operating at a very low ground level. What's wrong with getting the ground expertise when they are available and to save lives?

Nothing wrong with the govt getting Dr Albert Winsemius to come out with SG's industralisation plan. Nothing wrong with getting foreign expertise to come out with Changi Airport's blueprint. Nothing wrong with getting foreign knowhow to build the MRT.

It was SG's strategic direction that counts.

So anything wrong with getting foreign tunneling expertise if SG has to use them to save lives?
