During our Peace Corps training they always told us to drink hot tea. I always thought this was nuts because my "instincts" told me to do the opposite. They never told us why. Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

Later in Chiangmai we went to the two large air-conditioned shopping centers a lot when the heat was too unbearable. We saw a lot of movies,
Another explanation for drinking hot beverages I heard a while ago was that if you drink a cold beverage your body needs to 'heat up' to make the cold fluid the same temperature as your body (about 37 degrees). Therefore your body is generating even more heat..not sure if it is true though, but its sounds plausible.

Looks like i'me in for it hey, fortunatly, l am able to tollerate exteams in weather.
That aside, l am still looking forward to our trip, to catch up once again with my Thai family and friends.

We fly to Thailand Friday, from what l am told, this is the hottest time of the year.
If you're interested in a British perspective, the BBC's City Guide "Average Conditions" chart for Bangkok, says "Discomfort from heat and humidity" rises from High to Extreme during April-June: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT002890. Ouch.

Maybe I'm unusual but I can't drink the amount of water needed, I just don't like it. I have been badly dehydrated twice, once in Thailand and once in Turkey, and on both occasions I was sticking to water.

Drinking hot tea or cola I've never had problems.

I'm thai and raised here but for 23 years i never have an idea how to cool down in summer,, every year it gets hotter. and now i had to go to somewhere where is a/c room, the mall, library till the night comes - go back to take a shower and go to bed lol

I have been during May and June on several occasions. As was previously mentioned, I take numerous showers. I also use lots of Snake Brand powder, try to lay low duing the mid-day hours, make excuses to take the car (air conditioned) someplace, and drink plenty of cold beer. Sit in the shade and try not to move too much. Early afternoon naps are also very helpful.

take a dip in waterfalls and then drive home in wet clothes. alternatively, get caught up in the thunderstorm on the way home. (I am in Krabi. in 4 years, we never ever get home dry from Ao Nang.) keep my hair wet.
btw, it is near intolerable anyway when it is not cloudy at least a little.

Drinking cold things is the wrong way to go. Discomfort is caused by the large difference in body temperature to the ambient temperature. Hot drinks raise body temperature closer to the ambient therefore decreasing discomfort.

Travel around in the Middle East and you will always see people taking tea or coffee.

By this same logic I should enjoy a cold drink instead of a hot one on a cold day... which I don't. I guess it works for some people...

A college friend of mine swore that the best way to warm up in the winter was to eat a tall cone of frozen yogurt. Maybe it was the sugar.

Some very good point here, so armed with these, an air conditioned rentacar, air conditioned hotel and drink warm beer, im'e going to tollerate the heat no problem, correct.--------------------------------------oh, not correct.

Drink hot tea, or go to the ºè͹éÓ. But I don't have problem with hot weather and bear the heat better than my wife. It's cold weather I can't deal with...

Three weeks ago, I didnt like the thought of going to Thailand in what is supposed to be the hottest time there. Now that ime back l can say for me it want all that bad.
OK we had a car with aircon, hotels with aircon, but that was about it.
The rest of the time, it was put up with it as the Thai's do. Maybe in my favour was that the weather in our part of Australia has been at times fairly hot.
While there l dressed in light loose clothes, wore open type sandles etc, even had a broad rim gentlemans hat, it was not all that bad.
On the other hand, my Thai wife didnt like the heat at all, saying "cant live in Thailand any more, too hot". I think a good part of the problem is she works here in aged care and disability care in building with air conditioning.
Oh while l think of it, l didnt try warm drinks as discussed earlier, but at times had my fair share of nice cold LEO cans.

I carry a wash cloth or a handkerchief at all times to wipe the sweat off my face.

Sit in the shade and try not to move too much. Early afternoon naps are also very helpful.
Just make sure you don't sit under a durian tree.

How do people not get killed by that?.....
