This is my first event for the morning of 13th April about an hour ago. Hundreds of local people came together in Samut Prakan to make merit for Songkran by giving alms to monks and pouring water over Buddha images and the hands of their elders.

Our next big event today is of the Mons in Phra Pradaeng doing their Swan and Centipede Parade. You can follow me live today on Twitter @RichardBarrow. As and when I get time I will also post moblogs from my iPhone at www.MyThailandBlogs.com.

I was over at Ancient Siam this afternoon where a pair of elephants were joining in the fun by splashing water at the tourists. See my pictures here:

Tomorrow I will be taking pictures of some more traditional Thai activities during Songkran. This is building sand pagodas in the temple. I will also try and locate a temple that is doing "song nam phra" which is pouring water on monks.

As usual, follow me on Twitter where I will be posting pictures live during the day. Also check out my moblog which I also post from the field: www.mythailandblog.com.

Thai people go to their local temple during Songkran to take part in a ceremony called "song nam phra" where they pour water on the monks and novices. At this temple there were 450 monks and novices!

Building Sand Pagodas is one way Thai people make merit during Songkran.
