A shelter for Bangkok's homeless
Sanam Luang's 300 residents will soon have to move * Published: 17/01/2010 at 12:00 AM * Newspaper section: News As the night falls, 52-year-old Banjob emerges from a dark corner of Sanam Luang into the open air in the middle of the wide field and spreads out a one-metre square plastic sheet printed with colourful Breeze detergent logos over the rough cement blocks. The plastic sheet will be his bed tonight as it has been for the past six months since he left his home in Chai Nat province with one bag of clothing and an uncertain future. Like other homeless people in Bangkok, Mr Banjob may soon be forced to move on as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has come up with a new plan to relocate them. I copped some flack recently, when I didnt see the point of some American based group of people, going to Thailand, to build a home in 2 weeks for some lucky family.
The lucky family who got the new home, would only get it, IF , amoung other thing, they could repay the Mortage. Now, if this same group of people, were to go to Thailand and help the HOME LESS, who had no hope of repaying, other than show gratitude, then I would applaude them. |

There are some people who chose to be homeless and there are some people who are forced into it, when I was younger, having lived in a car my self, holidaying through Australia, I never felt the experience of being homeless all that bad, in fact I quit enjoyed it, until I was on the Gold coast and the police fined me one night for sleeping in my car, which was the equivalent of two days wages, the next night on the gold coast I decided to sleep in some ones front yard instead so as to avoid the fine of sleeping in a public place.

17Jan10Let us all ( for a moment at least ) ALL forget what religion we are and think only about the homeless and give from the heart. Each home less person has their own story of how they arrived where they are and their reasons for being poor-off. Consider for a moment your own particular situation and be candid on couinting your blessings. We ALL pass through this life in a time-frame that is only the blink of an eye in comparision to the age of our universe which is deemed to be 13.5 billion yrs. " For to give is better than to receive " someone once said.....and when we do so we can reflect on what we do and know that we tried to make a difference in someone's life. Who knows what is in store for us ( take Haiti for an example ) and each one of us could have the tides turned on us any day. Charity begins at home. Bob Loblah
