I have noticed some Thai taxi drivers place a small towel behind their neck, sort of inside the shirt.

It probably helps too
I've tried this too. Tho only with a wet towel, it has quite a nice cooling effect.

Hi

In Issan at village no AC so I have young nephew's fan me while I sleep in the bamboo hammock LOL.
or get on the scooter and ride to town 8 km for ice coffee.
just being on the bike with the wind is cooling.

or go to the nearby lake for a swim In the hot months they have BBQ fish and food
and beer vendors. and some quaint little floating rafts with bamboo covers they are tied to ropes out in the lake after you get your food you can use the ropes and pull yourself
out into the lake away from people and beach.

If all else fails just sit and sweat it out.

How did I stay cool in Bangkok? I never did, unless I lived in my air conditioned room, which is not really living. Like David, I was told to drink hot tea, which I did in the morning. Then I drank cold lemonade the rest of the day. I had a kidney infecton most of the time I lived there - I think from the water.
Funny thing is, that I thought I would freeze to death once I got back to the states. I still tend to hibernate in cold weather.

After running 12kms every morning the rest of the day just doesn't seem so hot.

Otherwise, I live inside with air conditioning, and eat a lot of ice creams (4 yesterday)

Default How do you keep cool in Thai Summer?
This week has been the hottest so far. Today in the shade at the back of my house it is already 39 Celsius. Today is the hottest day of the year so far. Splashing water around at Songkran is a good way to stay cool. But that is nearly over now. How do others stay cool at this time of year. share your tips here.

oh well, I guess there is always something new to learn.

btw, I'm relieved that it is still quite cool during the nights here. no fan needed, there is even some light breeze coming in through the window at night. it goes down to 24 degrees at dawn. I had thought it would be worse after Borneo, but I am actually quite ok.

go on holiday to a nice and cool place like Borneo the temperature is below 30 I think, but the humidity is killing. I have never sweated this much in my life, even though I am not hot at all!
nice seaside places like Krabi should do the trick as well. and just use pictures from last year for your blogs (I seriously feel sorry for you about having to do the beauty contest)

otherwise, I agree with Pailin.

In the U.S., travel companies tout special clothing for hot climates, with vents discreetly placed in the back of a shirt or magical fibers to wick sweat away from your body. But actually I think the more traditional stiffly starched thin cotton shirt might be more comfortable. At least you'll look cool.

(Maybe I'll try the shaving next time, although I get nervous about not matching my passport photo...)

Actually I've done this thing last week.

But the thing that I hate with shaving of your armpit is that some of the hair is still there, and every time I shut it my armpit down I feel very itchy coz of the hair.

Also if it is splashed with water+soap, it feels a lot itchy.

By the way Philippines is also hot as hell, but not much like Thailand.
I drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration, and if necessary, relaxing inside the bucket w/ ice. Seriously. I've done that.

I think the Taliban made it compulsory for men, along with growing beards and showing their ankles. All of which would still be preferable to being forced to wear a burqa.
