=) We paid in advance to our local tour agent who arranged the free and easy package. Yes, paid cash =) But a few days after we returned (I think), we received a call from Thailand (from what was told to me), which my friend ignored.

Or perhaps Paul, with your reputation with money, the kind of hotel you stay in would only lose USD150 if you walked and skipped out on the last six days.
I will add a correction, "this is the last Hotel out side Australia I stayed in", in Indonesia in fact, Yes I payed converted to Australian dollars AU$20.58 per night x the last 6 nights, that is approximately AU$123 or about US$113. Yes I will also add that included a fully air conditioned room and breakfast for that price, a bargain, I was lucky I got in just before a price rise.

Well the last hotel I stayed in, Just asked for one night in advance which I payed for in cash, plus a photo copy of my passport, the reamainder of the stay was to be payed when I left. I stayed there 7 days, I could have walked out after 7 days and they would have had to take legal action to get there money if I walked out, although I payed for the final 6 days with a credit card on leaving so I had documentation for Tax purposes. I guess some hotels must have trust to do this. I guess a walker must be rare.

I wonder if that's the reason why some hotels require you to present your credit card before they check you in. I stayed in a hotel in Hong Kong and they asked for my credit card although my company had already paid my accommodation in advance.
Many hotels have a mini-bar in the room, or you can charge meals to your room...

Actually that happened when I was 19 (I know youth is never an excuse for such cowardice and irresponsibility), and I have clean forgotten about it most of the time. But of late, it suddenly resurfaced in my memory and shocked me with a jot. I emailed Anoma a few months ago about it but it never got back to me (thinking this must be a prank email I guess)..

You must have paid in cash, otherwise they might have charged your credit card, as that's what they do it you steal a bathrobe or something.

=D As one of the sayings goes..A realized person does not bother about mundane things and has noting that bothers on the mind. Thus even though you have clean forgotten about it most of the time. But of lately, it suddenly resurfaced in your memory. Most people will definitely ignore about this (there's always a thousand reason like people might long forgotten about this or who cares)...finally it's the courage that you have embrace upon the mistakes and not ignoring or running away

I feel it's important is to give ourselves a mirror of the mind and constantly reflect and remind ourselves to improve

Instead the hotel charges higher prices to all guests to cover for such eventualities...

Cos the tot that the chambermaid may have to pay (by pay docked off) for not checking on the room (i.e. not discovering the damage) haunts me... Call it end-of-year guilt complex or recollection blues or whatever =) Ya it has been almost 10 years, time to let go (and not to make such a mistake again)... Still, it is somewhat a relief to hear that most probably no employee gets penalised (in salary) for that...

Did they attempt to called you since your friend ignored?

I don't know if travel insurance will cover you if you willfully kick a door in.

Considering that a bathrobe at somewhere like the Four Seasons can go for somewhere close to 200 dollars, they do get pinched from time to time.
Is $200 in THB?

Hahaha this seems a bit off..i had never wear a bathrobe before so i didn't know of the price

Thanks for your compliment, but very frankly, I don't think I have a kinder heart than the average individual. I just don't want this issue to nag at the back of my mind for another 10years; that's kinda more self-serving in a way than altruistism, really
=) I can also be frankly with you...u sure have the kinder heart!!!! All these can't be measure if a person keep on comparing on and on. Knowing, Feeling and Doing, are also the 3 essential elements of life. Being able to repent upon mistakes will one day lead a person towards success...

For your case, it's even more remarkably admirable because it have passed after 10 years. Some people may just ignore or who cares since this matter have been past over 10 years. But it's your choice of not running away and as you have mention before..." I just don't want this issue to nag at the back of my mind for another 10years" That's is what i admire you for

The definition of a kinder heart varies differently to people..To me, you sure deserve it haha
