I am Asian exposed to long hours of sunlight and looks like Thai.
Gotta love it!

Maybe it is easier to accept this practice if you look at it as a 'discount for locals' or 'discount for regulars' which are common practices in many parts of the world.

Yes
I have lived in Thailand for a while now and i dont usually get hit for double pricing anymore, however you do need to speak in Thai or give it your best shot.

If they think you are living here the chances are less that you pay double.

However when going to the Hot tourist spots down south, it really is a lot harder to get Thai prices unless you are with a thai.

Its luck, mixed with the fact if you look like you have oodles of money then you will be treated that way.

I have seen rich thais also get charged higher prices, but ofcourse they are happy to pay it and regard it as a boost for their confidence or ego, since they must look like a high so....

Many grey areas regarding this, try hanging around with the rich thais for a while and you will see that Thais just exploit those with money rather than just their own kind.
