I went to a McDonalds in Wales today and I think that our regional variation is that the coffee is actually used washing up water... Disgusting. And they put my fries and coffee out on a tray for nearly 20 minutes whilst my fishburger (aka Fillet 'O' Fish) was prepared. They call it fast food and then make you wait 20 minutes...

This is not necessarily a daft question but, does McDonald's do samurai burgers in Japan They sell them in Hong Kong and Thailand.

Well they certainly have Teriyaki burgers at McDonalds here, but theya ren't called Samurai burgers
I'm not sure how people would react here if they called a samurai burger.....

For the first time ever they are introducing Quarter Pounders with Cheese. They even have a McDonalds "Premium" brand of restaurant in Tokyo called, "Quarter Pounder"

Not sure where this topic goes, but one thing that impresses me about McDonald's in Thailand is their subtle differences from my home country. I'm sure all the fast food chains around the world have their own differences and additions depending on region/cultural tastes, but what impresses me most about McDonald's Thailand is not the cultural additions but the fact that they offer stomach turning 'doubles' of everything on the menu.

By 'doubles' I mean they offer a double big mac, double filet o fish, and so on, where they add twice the meet and fillings. They even offer a double sausage mcmuffin. I'm surprised they don't offer this option in the U.S. at least where I live.

Another thing I found impressive was their 'family pack' meals where they offer various sandwiches and other sides all for a decent price. Back in the days when I was much heftier and had a huge appetite, this would have been a match made in heaven.

InterestedGuy, you just reminded me I like to order a McDonald's once a month - and ur thread gave the craving.

What's annoying tho is that on the Thai website, I find it impossible to find the delivery number, even tho they have a special delivery menu. (Reminder to self: save number on phone.)

I used to have some giveaway fillet-o-fish fridge magnets with the number on but my wife, bless her, threw them away.

Anyway, for record, for home delivery, if ur in Bkk at least, the number is 1711.

Don't make the mistake I did and call 1771 - unless you want to talk to Thai Airways.

Curt's mention of KFC making him ill is interesting, as the only two times I felt horrid from eating anything in Thailand were both when I had KFC. Mind you I have a very weak stomach, and ate from food stalls that had cooked fish sitting outside for who knows how long and other shady looking stuff and never got sick. The first time I had KFC for lunch from the mall in Korat. That evening and all next day I had the worst stomach cramps. It was odd I didn't particularly feel too naseous and did not vomit, but the pains were terrible. The second time I had KFC in Bangkok for dinner, from the one near Nana station. The next day I again had horrid stomach pains and the squirts. This time I also felt pretty queasy and felt like I was going to puke. I honestly thought this was the big one (nasty food poisoning) but I don't think it was true food poisoning as those things are pretty horrible from what I read. But nonetheless I felt like hell. Never again in Thailand.

Badfish maybe you should post that about the wai'ing ronald mcdonald in 100 interesting Thailand facts as I think it's pretty interesting. People always seem to be fascinated by that figure when they see it.

the only time in my life living on fast food has been when I went to Hong Kong on a visa run (4 days) and I was waaaayyyy too broke/stingy to afford anything else.

Hey Curt, There was a random fast food place in Bang Sue that I used to like... It was on Techawanich road, I think...it was just a short walk to Siam Cement. (although, probably everything in Bang Sue is a short walk to Siam Cement)
The fast food place wasn't any of the big names... I remember that they had good fries.

I'm surprised how popular this thread is . Seems how much ppl on this forum love Thailand and Thai food, so many still crave McDonald's now and then. I guess it's cos they put addictive additives in the food.

What was largely responsible for McDonald's success is that they were able to make a Big Mac in Boston taste the same as the one in LA and Florida. Product consistency... The one in Bangkok is pretty dang close to the one here at home.

But I do love the variation in the menus. I had this awesome spicy samurai crispy chicken sandwich at the McDonald's at the Incheon airport in Korea a few weeks ago. I wish I could have tried out the rice buns they had in Thailand before, I think they're not available anymore.

You're right David. I just checked again and there it is on the homepage. I think I was just too hungry and clicked right onto the delivery menu, where it isn't there.

Just had a great fillet-o-fish and samurai burger tho.
