1st of all, those pics look good...lol...

secondly, fast food places all over thailand tend to be sweeter, in my opinion, than here in the states. like the pizza hut tomato sauce on the pizza is sweet, the mcdonalds ketchup is wayyy sweet...i guess thai's are just sweet...hahah

WHy do people in Thailand loves to eat exotic foods?

Such as grasshopers, snakes, frogs, as well as cockroaches?

I'm not ignorant on these foods because my country also eat those exotic foods, like the "dagang bukid" or in Eng. Farm rats.

But we had different reasons why do we eat those.
in thailand grasshoppers aren't "exotic", that's the whole point. It's only strange to people not from there. For example where I grew up we ate moose and bison. To a thai person that's "exotic" too... some places in africa cow's blood on a stick is considered a great snack.

BTW most thai's don't eat actual cockroaches as in the nasty kind that live in garbage. The kind they eat are a slightly different species...

I like to customise my Subway sandwiches. I like to order a cheese and ham sub then buy 25 baht worth of those grubs, dakdeang, I think they're called, and put them in the sub. Makes for a nice salty sandwich after a few beers.

Well I don't mind it for a change as I may only eat it when I travel, at least when I travel I know what to expect in the way of taste.
But McDonalds vary their menu country by country so you don't really know what to expect.

McDonald's in the US has to battle with it's nutritional image. That movie Supersize Me, sensationalism at it's best, did a number to their image. Remember they always used to ask you if you wanted your meal supersized? Now they don't even do that. So these double Big Mac's and cheesy fries are just food for the media to attack them in the US.

What they don't have here, and it's too bad because it's a decent burger, is the Angus burgers. Because of the thickness of the patty, it actually requires new equipment to prepare it. That's why you don't see some of the smaller McDonald's in the US offering this burger because they don't have the space.

Incidentally, one of my best friends and owner/operator, was responsible for Ronald McDonald character doing a wai. I was just at the office in Sathorn a few weeks ago.

For the first time ever they are introducing Quarter Pounders with Cheese. They even have a McDonalds "Premium" brand of restaurant in Tokyo called, "Quarter Pounder"
Kinda weird.
What was the difference with the premium brand restaurant and an ordinary McDonalds?

Surprisingly, the only Big Mac that tasted weird to me was in Sydney. Here, in BKK, they tase the same as the States.
I wonder if it could have had a mix of lamb in the beef. The reason I mention that is because when I lived in the UK - I would buy "ground beef" - and some of it tasted more like lamb than ground beef.

McDonald's to open 1,000 stores

Chicago Store: McDonald's US sales were up 5% on the year before

US fast-food chain McDonald's says it plans to open 1,000 new restaurants this year.

The world's largest hamburger chain also said fourth-quarter net income fell 23% to $985.3m (£710m), from $1.27bn a year before.
Revenue fell to $5.57bn from $5.75bn, even though global same-store sales rose 7.2%, as the firm was hit by the strong dollar.
In the US, the firm raised the price of its Double Cheeseburger in November.
Announcing the results, chief executive Jim Skinner said: "For 2009 we plan to invest $2.1bn in capital to open about 1,000 new restaurants and reinvest in our existing locations."
Despite beef, cheese, and other ingredients rising in price, the company reported an 8% fall in total operating costs and expenses.
McDonald's has seen sales rise in the economic downturn, helped by its low prices and ubiquity of its outlets.
In the quarter, its same-store sales in the US rose 5% on the year before.
International same-store sales were also ahead, rising 7.6% in Europe and 10% in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa division.

I was not impressed with the spicy chicken at KFC in Thailand, it was much more crusty with less meat, than the Australian version.

Gotta remember too that McDonald's overseas is not seen as low quality junk food in some countries. (it may be, but the perception is slightly different than it is in America) In some countries it's so relatively expensive that it is considered a swanky treat if you get to go there. So they provide a little more localized and sometimes upmarket fare. For example in Germany, it's seen as somewhat pricey american food, and my experience in Thailand has been it's seen as where the rich kids eat. In switzerland, it's almost as expensive as a sit down meal at a nice thai restaurant! When I first got married and visited my wife's village, the kids were amazed when we took them to mcdonalds.... "we get a free toy too? how can you afford this???" :-)

Many McDonalds will also substitute pork for beef on their Big Macs.

Years ago, KFC Thailand had the best fish sandwich to be found.

Although I really like their spicy chicken sandwiches, I have given up on KFC; my last visit was the last time I got ill from food in Bangkok.

What's annoying tho is that on the Thai website, I find it impossible to find the delivery number, even tho they have a special delivery menu. (Reminder to self: save number on phone.)
When I go to the Thai website the McDelivery 1711 number is the first thing that jumps out of the computer screen at me. It's on the right of the screen immediately below the video advert player.

Apparently it's all "trendy" and black inside the new restaurants. And the best part is, they only have one thing on the menu, a quarter pounder. Well, two things I suppose, a quarter pounder set and a double quarter pounder set (shouldn't that be called a half pounder?). Only in Japan.

ANyway, here are some links, the first one with photos of the place, and the second is the official website.

Sorry that this kinda veered off the Thailand Mac topic....
