How did I guess that this would deteriorate into an American/British slanging match!! A forum is for different diversities to share different opinions.........Wherever they learned them!..... I will not lower myself to denigrating the Americans, although severely tempted. I will merely end by saying that my experiences of Thai's and alcohol are somewhat different than others.....Thats Life.

Thai people drink like fishes. Parents let their kids start drinking young and the kids sneak into pubs all the time. Johnnie Walker has advertisements everywhere and kids think it's cool to drink and smoke. One thing I can't do is drink when there's still sunlight out. A lot of Thai people I know will start drinking early and then some even drink until the late morning. I have to wonder what state their livers will be in when they reach their 40s.

I was thinking back to the days of Thailand as an R&R base for the troops as being where the rot set in, I take both points and I know how corrupt the police are but even so not all Thai's are the same most are pleasant, peaceful, people just getting along on their own. Especially in the villages

Yes I have seen a lot of drunk Thai's in my time, but I would have to say the vast majority are still sober., xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I just saw on "Al Jazera" web, video about Songkran celebration, and report on the traffic deaths that are caused by drunk drivers, at this Thai new years festival-about 400 in about 4 days of these "festivities". It also stated on this video that Thailand is among the highest alcohol consuming countries in the world and on Pattaya atoz web it says that Thailand is 7th. highest alcohol consuming country in the world this is surprise to me, because I haven`t seen alcoholic burn outs staggering on Bkk. streets as you can see in U.S. big cities....well for those in Thailand during these 4 days; be extra careful
