I was stopped by traffic cops many times , and I found them always polite. First thing I heard "¢Í͹Ø*ÒµÔ¤ÃѺ" something like asking for permission. Then police told me what I did wrong such as I drove in the wrong lane, speed, etc., time for me to be very polite "I am sorry, my mistake I didn't know it's the bus lane, I am from Dtang Jang Wad (other province), I am really sorry".

I've never been asked for my driver license after I apologized the polices, they just warned me to be more careful and let me go . Not only females are treated politely, but males too. Anyway, there are always dark sides that we don't know, I don't believe all polices are always polite and I hope NOT to meet any of those impolite ones or the ones with bad mood.

Yes my experiences with the Thai traffic police were they basically speak with a polite tone.

However, those looking for a bit of "sidelines" normally take their time to look up for some fault.

My worst experience is when I was driving my new car which was still wearing the red license plate. I remember it was a Sunday afternoon around 4pm and I was going through the toll at Ngam Wong Wan and a policeman stopped me and told me I'm not allowed to drive this car and gave me a ticket on the spot. And then directed me to the toll office to pay the fine immediately. I tried to argue that its not even 7pm yet (which you're allowed to drive untill for red license plate cars) but he won't listen and just kept pointing to the office by the toll. Lots of cars were stopped and many people were paying fines. My fine ticket read "driving with fake license plate.". I had to pay 400 baht. They must be VERY desperate to hit their target for that month or something.

I'm sure if I have those gold crest symbol thing from the police/army/navy/airforce or whatever those big shots have in the front of their cars, thosse policeman won't even dare to stop me.

Sorry to hear this BUCKY, that is just what happened to me too once.

But to tell the truth the Police Officer was right doing so.

If you buy a new car you get a Red License Plate, so far so good.

But what most people don't know is that every Shop selling cars only has a little amount of originally Red License Plates, all others are fake ones.

I was wondering one day driving around and met at least 3 other cars with the same Red License Plate Number

So the Police Officer did the right thing, it's the Car Selling Shops which are doing wrong by giving you a fake Red License Plate, and we not knowing it that these are fake ones.

So the Police Officer did the right thing, it's the Car Selling Shops which are doing wrong by giving you a fake Red License Plate, and we not knowing it that these are fake ones.

I have been told that red plates are also not allowed on the tollway, in addition to the evening ban as you already noted. You also have to be careful about doing inter-provincial travel. I think you have one month to register new plates though obviously lots of people flout this law as you see red plates everywhere. My neighbours have had red plates for about 9 months now. I guess they want to show off that they have a brand new car.
