Airline ticket costs are not centered on distance traveled. Full fares for flights anywhere are really rediculously high. Working thru a discounter is probably the best. Most reasonable air fares I've found were from small independant asion tour shops. And, the special fares can come on rather unexpectedly. My wife and I paid $1030 for a RT from Seattle/ Bkk with Deluxe seating. That is, one heck of a big chair to sit on. Normal at that time was $1240. Many go to the internet for airline seat pricing. I go to an asian friend, (lao) who owns a small tourist agency. The guy gets very good rates on top air lines.

I think i checked with Altaly Tours. All flights leave from BKK, i think. The prices shown in the web don't include tax, insurance, or fuel fee. Maybe you can check them out.
