But still for national parks and such govt things that are supported by Thai Taxes then someone foreign should pay more because he does not pay for their upkeep.
Yep.

I think it's been pointed out in several similar threads that the dual price structure sometimes hits quite badly those of us farangs who earn our salaries here in Thailand
Sorry, I think we are talking about two different things here as I was referring to tourists.

But yes, I see where you're coming from, because it's a form of discrimination when you see it from the economic point of view. Now, as a foreigner living abroad I can actually share your frustration. In my case, it's a bit different though, the chance for me to earn more than the local people with same education/degree is close to none! I'd have better chances to earn less or not getting a job at all ;-) Also, even though I have lived here for almost 20 years of my life, I'm still far away from getting the same treatment when it comes to medical care, education and retirement arrangements.

This is off topic, and it might sound like I'm trying to justify discrimination, it's not my intention though, people just have to realize that discrimination exists everywhere, people who permanently live in a country are always treated differently than tourists. It's then when you realize the true colors of a country and I'm not saying Thailand is utopia, farangs will always be seen as "more sophisticated", rich and privileged, therefore they can "pay more". Same as foreigners in Europe are seen as "inferior", poor and uneducated, therefore, won't get a job. Is it right? NO! But there will always be an imbalance in this global system. It took hundreds/thousands of years to establish this imbalance (roots back to colonialism and now is being held up by globalisation) and it will take twice the time to turn the wheel and make people aware that just because your skin is white, it doesn't make you rich... and just because you're tan it doesn't make you poor and uneducated. "Racial" discrimination is never a one-way street.

Okay... enough ranting ... back to the topic ... yes, dual pricing is wrong when it comes to medical care and foreigners who live and work in Thailand permanently, just as any other form of discrimination is wrong (men earning more than women, poor kids from the Isaan having no chance for better education etc.).
