There's nothing like a cold, dank, winter day in the UK. As mentioned previously, it's dark, humid and cold. It eats into the bones until all you can think of is the beach in Barbados. But then comes the spring, bright, clear, and refreshing and the whole country bursts out in a fervour that cannot be matched anywhere else.
And that makes the whole winter worthwhile! |

In Finland there is the same climate as in Sweden. I think that Finland and Sweden are very similiar.
I don´t like Finland during the winter. It is so cold and dark. In November,December and january, the sky is almost every day full of clouds so that you can´t see the sun. Then when it snows, the snow is white at first, but then it turns to grey or black. Then the sky is grey, the trees are grey and the snow is grey. This "grey period" is in November,December and January. Now i´m happier, because "the grey period" is over and the sun shines again. Soon it will be summer (only three months) |

I enjoy a cold change, I remember on the news, it must be some time in the 80's, where there were a few snow flakes reported in the CBD of Sydney Australia, not many people saw the flakes, but it did happen, Sydney has had snow, even thought only a few hundred people have seen it and the snow melted the instant it hit the ground.

yer like Örkki said...that sounds pretty much like England...i mean its not the rain thats bad really...it's the clouds....everywhere is always dark and the sky is grey so it makes people miserable and unhappy, probably why we moan about everything so much but once you get past november-end of march it is not so bad at all! just very depressing for so many people in the winter including me. grrrrr!

A heat wave day in London is an average day in Bangkok.
no way, right now in london it is very hot and we just don't have the infratrature to deal with it. no celing fans, a/c buses, buses with decent size windows, a/c in a lot of shops is not very good etc etc i haven't been on the subway in bangkok yet but i don't think it can be as hot as the tube in london, if this weather carries on i will not be surprised if someone dies on it. i only wish i was in bangkok this is my first post, hello everyone, i used live and teach in bangna but now live in london with my thai wife. i look forward to contributing on this site as best i can. do you guys hold any member meetings? cheers |

Quote[/b] ]Wanna swap homes Paul Want to live in my house, try paying the A$36,000 (14,600 British Pounds) Land Tax on my house every year, plus my council rates electricity gas telecommunications etc. At least I don't have a mortgage, but after all my expenses, I think you may as well be renting. |

Nothing wrong with an English winter, it is easy getting warm on a cold day, just put on more clothes, but just try getting cool out side on a hot day with out an air-conditioned Astronauts suit. warming up is much easier than cooling off out side, when doing every day things. I have always enjoyed the English weather, and I prefer England between summer and winter, as the summers in England are to hot for me. Now Sydney Australia only has pleasant temperatures for 3 months in the middle of winter, the rest of the year it is stinking hot and I have problems going out doors, as it is always to hot.

And Chiangrai (where my gal lives), at the northern most part of Thailand is even colder/cooler! And I am equally comfortable in ChiangRai as I am in Bangkok. Who cares, as long as we are together I think the death might be more to being drunk than the cold. When you're drunk, your natural defense to the cold is weakened and you give off way more heat (hence the flush of the face). I'm originally from the state of Montana in the US so I'm use to both the cold and the heat. Some winters we go as low if not lower than -40C and in the summer we can hit up in the 40s. However Montana is a very dry place (winter it's all in the snow and no rain from June to September). For me, I can't stand humidity at either temp extreme . |
