Quote[/b] (visionchaser45 @ Oct. 24 2004,18:59)]That's what farang who stay in the city run into. First, why would anyone want to eat food farang in Thailand? That stuff is junk food in America, and it seems even junkier in Thailand. Second, staying in Bangkok, Pattaya, and other tourist areas for farang will always be more expensive than staying in the countryside. Finally, it is much easier to get into trouble in the city (you name the malady). 2. What comes to living costs , I get 23000thb from my government every month. If I have "sanuk-month", I have to use some of my savings, otherwise it is enough for me to live... 3. And yes, I want to eat farang food sometimes, even thai food is good. Unfortunately, good farang food is hard to find here in Lampang. 4. I was in Pty last week and it seemed that things cost three times what they cost here.... |

LOL great info Vision and Seeker even more for the list!
Thank you both, I kinda liked the motor bike, I never coulda guessed that one. I will start new thread on Auto's for my own curiousity. I didn't think about the reality of what you would possibly use the gasoline for lol nice point. As for the Western food, my wife cooks Thai food everyday, every meal, and believe me, sometimes you need a change of pace. Once a month We either take the kids for fast food, make Lasagna, or order a pizza. Of course when in Thailand on vacation I never eat Western food, but I am sure if i were to live there it would be nice to get some home flavored food every couple months. If nothing else for the sake of being sentimental. |

Great topic!
Stacker, you covered a wide base of Farang needs on that list. I wonder what our other fellow expats think about this... I guess the extent varies with the individual. I'd cross out quite a few entries on the list though: all the alcoholic stuff, the film and digital prints, noodles, phone calls from booth (have local cell phone), English books (only language books now, lol), clothing (get new clothes from the US).. gas (driving in Bkk? No way!!) Movies (nah... games instead), Tylenol. but every deleted item results in some additional expense of a different kind: Green tea (20 baht); phone card for cell phone (300 baht) , public transport (?), Internet card (~300 baht); games for PC (?); Quote[/b] ]Second-hand motor bike 20,000 - 40,000 baht I don't see anything wrong with eating Western food in Thailand. I do it occasionally too. Its a nice change, after stuffing myself silly with the local delicacies. Even my Thai friends who've been to the US for half a year, they too ate home (Thai) food, not only what the locals eat. |

Once I arrive at my family home north of Kalasin, I pay a total of $1,000 U.S. (40,000 baht) for an entire month. I eat like a king and feed the whole family too. I can go to the big market in Sahatsakhan on the 11th and 25th of every month and buy just about anything I want. I can get anything else in Kalasin or Khon Kaen. I can buy Beer Chang (3 - 0.66 ltr bottles for 100 baht). The market for food is open every day and everything is fresh and inexpensive. But, hey, to each his own. |

Houses have about the same value or percieved value based on location nearly anywhere. You can own (following law needs some understanding if you are not citizen) a home for anywhere from THB500,000- whatever you would like to spend. Some homes in CM can easily go above THB16,000,000.
Business I would have no guess at all. |
