Maybe, this farang did not have a registered business, he may just have got cash in hand for his own labor. Say for instance, this farang, was an IT expert, he could just advertise his services and get paid cash in hand, no tax, not much paper work, just cross the boarder every 30 days and get on with life. It even possible he hires Thai people cash in hand. The black market economy fluoresces all over the world.

if you have a work permit and as far as I know, you do need one if you are employed by your own co.Maybe he had a multi-entry of some kind.
But I thought the poit of work permits was they are permanant, as long as the job lasts, without the need to re-enter the Kingdom.

But if you have an "O" visa, either married or retirement then it is not necessary to leave the country to renew it, just go to an immig. office and get it done in a short while, less than an hour usually. Exactly what I thought, so why did this guy have to do the run?

But I have found that you do not really want to put a lot of stock in what some farang tell you as sometimes they just like to talk about what they know and not always tell it like it is..But you can not put much stock in the published immig. laws either as they never are as printed when you go to get the visa either, each officer can and does make some up as they go along.
If you have everything done that is in the laws you read, then you are pretty safe, but do not be surprised if there is something you have to do that is not mentioned. Aint Thailand great :^>

Default self-employed work visas and married visas?
Hi All

As usual not sure if this is the right place for this or not, but if it isn't I'm sure it will be moved to where it should be (who said the rubbish bin?)

When I was last in the Kingdom I got chatting to a farrang (didn't know him then and doubt I'll ever see him again) one afternoon about the house he had built a couple of years ago, and showed me some lovely photos of him and his wife there. He told me he had set up a Thai company and that company owned the house as he (being a farrang) was not allowed to, all information I had read before.

He also told me the next day he was doing his visa run to Cambodia, I didn't think anything of it at the time, most ex-pats I spoke to mentioned visa runs at some point. But it has only just crossed my mind. If he has a Thai company, would he not also have a work permit for this company and therefore not need to do the visa run? And what about his wife? I'm sure I read somewhere if you a married you don't need to leave the country to update you visa.

Am I missing something or is it this chap that has missed the point?

But that's just it, he told me about all the troubles with paperwork ect setting up the business, just so he could own his own home in Thailand.
he may just have got cash in hand for his own labor.
