Umm.. I don't consider myself "farang". I just have some European decent in me!! Oh yes today during History, my teacher assumed I was full-asian because I take more pride of being Asian unlike my mixed Caucasion-Asian friend and he said, "Everyone in this room has a European decent in their ancestors besides Anna!!" I guess he assumed wrong!! I don't get mistaken for being a 'farang" though I get more mistaken of Vietnamese. LOL that's what yellow skin do to you man!!

I am half Sicilian , quarter Scottish, quarter and then some Irish and American Indian. I don't even look Like kon Thai
Anyway , I have been mistaken for someone from India when I was in an area mostly where people of Scandinavian desendent live. I don't look Italian enough to "fit" in with a group of pisanos.
Not light skinned enough to "fit" in with the Anglos.

Are they farang?
Normally farang implies westerners. I guess those from China,
India or Indonesia etc are not called farang.

Jonas
The "Swede" success. Swede --- so must be farang!

Tiger Woods?
I have no idea how good is his Thai , but I've seen papers referring him as "The Proud Son Of Thailand"

Others like Tata Young , Nancy , Christina , Kat. English, and
The Anwar Brothers?

I find good and bad things about being farang in Thailand, and even at home, since my mother-in-law is 100% Thai living in America. I notice that my rudeness is often excused because I am farang, and am not expected to know all of the manners that should be observed. My sister-in-law, who is Korean, does not get any allowances for her "malayat mai dee". My mother in law expects she should know how to behave, since she is also Asian. So in that respect, I am unfairly favored, I feel.
I am not half-Thai. I am American. My husband is half-Thai. Our children got lots of attention in Thailand, and especially the baby, whose skin is the lightest. Wherever we go, there will always be differences among people, and people will always notice these differences. The amazing thing about Thailand is just the grace and tolerance of the people there. Of course foreign tourists can be rude and annoying. But all the people we met were so wonderfully patient with us, and all wanting to help us practice our Thai language skills. We are trying even harder now so that we can speak Thai even more when we go back. After 2 trips to visit Thailand, we are still just beginners.

When we say 'farang' ½ÃÑè§ in Thai we mean:
1. a kind of fruit called 'guava'
2. only a person, whose hair is brown or blonde, coming from one of western countries (Europe and America)

So, could you translate ½ÃÑ觡Թ½ÃÑè§ 'farang gin farang' into English?
:-)

LOL, thank you Talu! I think I would make a good, healthy meal for you: fat-free, no calories!

On a serious note, this is an excellent post na... so much so that perhaps it would warrant to be on its own, as a separate topic.
I have seen a number of half-Thais on these forums, also a few Farangs who adopted Thai children. Thus I wouldn't be surprised to see lot's of replies to your question na.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to have the experience to help you in this one (as you know )... but I will ask my Thai friend if she knows anything about it, or if she knows any people who faced the same situation.
Quote[/b] ]We agreed that if and when we will have children, we're gonna live our life by two traditions, two religions, and a rich Thai-Farang kitchen!
So, even if we stay in Thailand, our children gonna be 50-50
That's so good, na! They will fare much better in life with twice as much cultural heritage than most other people have. That's going to be very helpful to them, and they will have twice as much fun too! but most importantly, they will have a wonderful mother!
Lucky babies!

I wish you good luck na. I am sure that wherever life takes you two, you will make the best out of it.

Default Do people in thailand like half thais?
If you are not 100% Thai then you are a farang. Even if you were born here and speak Thai fluently. That is the way it is.

However, if you are half Thai, you look Thai, act Thai, speak Thai fluently, then you maybe be able to fool some people.

There are quite a few successful half-Thai in entertainment. It is quite fashionable at the moment. I think the tv people like it because they can speak both Thai and farang.

Hehehe I'm half-Thai. I'm mixed with I think 4 ethnics. Hmm... yeah my mom wants me to join some Entertainment stuff over there because I can speak Thai, but not quite fluent and VERY FLUENT in English. LOL Hmm...so I'm a "Farang" ? LOL Cool beans!! *sighs* Hmm.... I don't know if I'm considered a "Farang" because the 4 ethnics are how can I say "Asian related" except one.

Well........ IN my opinion farang has a couple of meanings.
Race, style, food,.etc.. That is more than a couple :0P
The most important thing is your own perception of yourself. No matter what others think, you need to have a clear idea as to who you are on the inside. Being mixed myself, there were times when the identity crisis came upon me;but as popeye once said,
"I am who I am"
Who is popeye ?5555555
