Yes, you`re right humor & jokes can be different from continent to continent, but I am on another web-also international, where some jokes get posted, and all members internationaly find them funy. Here`s one, a Polish joke (In U.S. lot of jokes are made at expense of Polish men, implying that they are stupid-of course not true in reality):'Did you hear of this Polish admiral who wanted to get burried at sea?---4 sailors DROWNED trying to DIG his grave'...now do you N.Zealender find it funny?...what about Thais?..do you get the joke?...

Well if you are of Polish ancestry as you claimed, then you are dumbest Polish man I ever came across, other wise you could guess that what I was saying to you there is farthest thing from Polish foods . I looked at web categories just now...I see you dropping off your wisdom everywhere...I guess after you guzzle enough Wodka, you feel you are ready to lecture everyone on this web.

How do they react at the jokes about themselves?
An actual radio conversation between U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln and the Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland. The radio conversation was released by the chief of naval operations on 10/10/95 as authorised by the US Freedom of Information Act. Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision. U.S.S Abraham Lincoln: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision. U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. Canadians: No, I say again, divert YOUR course. U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN , THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH…. I SAY AGAIN….THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH….OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP!! Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call. and of course http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuNgBkloFE |

There's more to it than that. In the case of ethnic jokes between Kiwis, Aussies, Poms etc its just good-natured meaningless banter! No offence is intended and none is ever taken! With Yanks though, I'm not so sure, as they seem to take themselves far too seriously. Some of the posts on this thread are a bit "precious" and show a high degree of insecurity. If you can't stand a bit of friendly joshing you must be very unsure of your place in the world. Political correctness is an insidious disease and its time we got rid of it. Some people in this world would prefer everyone have a lobotomy! Then there would be no wars, no political incorrectness, no offence given or taken, etc. Greyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy................... ................................. BTW: There are plenty of Americans around that enjoy a good joke, especially when it involves the Polish, Italians, Irish, English, Puerto Ricans, Catholic Priests, and so forth and so on! |

I reckon every group is the target of another, and as long as the intent is humour there shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately sometimes it's difficult to determine exactly what the intent is and that's when the problems begin. |

The classic example of humour and national sensitivities lays in the comedy TV programme "Fawlty Towers" ,starring, among others, Andrew Sachs as the slightly stupid, and much physically abused foreign waiter, Manuel. The series was shown all over the world-and Manuel's nationality constantly changed, depending on the country in which it was being broadcast.
