All this obesity has made the pharmaceutical companies rich selling medications for high blood pressure and diabetes.
and probably the motocycle industries by selling ladybikes so thais don't have to walk further than 20m any more

whatever thats supposed to mean

besides: the overweight statistics can't be true... have see next to no fat thai people back then
Definitely getting fatter. It's all about the diet and there is at least twice as much junk food in Thailand than I've seen anywhere else. Since health and fitness is still in its infancy, I only see this problem getting worse. I have to cringe when I see how unhealthy Thai people will eat. Here in the States, I swear, they don't see anything wrong in eating fried chicken, donuts, sweets, cream, fatty high cholesterol foods, and just about anything bad all day long.

Maybe that report is because i just became Thai. I am 1.96 meters. That means the average height of Thai men just increased by one meter
I could barely fit into the photo boot to get my ID card.

Not only have women become bigger, they have also become more cylindrical and have less of the traditional hourglass shape."

Thai women's body shape has altered |dramatically in the last 30 years, with waistlines ballooning, says research

Over the past 27 years, Thai women's body shape has changed dramatically. They are now taller, heavier and have bigger waistlines.

According to extensive research, the average height of women under 50 years old has shot up five centimetres while their weight has jumped 5.4 kilograms.

Their waistlines have on average ballooned 3.7 inches and hips and breast circumference have increased by 2 and 2.2 inches respectively.

The research used 3D-scanning technology to measure the size and shape of 13,442 Thais. It was found that the average weight for women is 57kgs, the average height 156.89cms, the average waistline 31.5 inches, average breast circumference 36 inches and average hips 38 inches.

"The fact that women's waistlines have grown almost twice as much as their chests and bottoms means that the shape of the average Thai women has changed," Dr Pansak Siriruchatapong said. Not only have women become bigger, they have also become more cylindrical and have less of the traditional hourglass shape."

Thai men below 50 years of age have an average weight of 68.94kgs, average height of 169.38cms, average chest circumference of 39.1 inches, average waistline of 33.5 inches and average hip circumference of 37.4 inches.

When compared with 1982 data, Thai men are now 7.2cms taller and 11.4kg heavier. Their chest circumference has also expanded by 5.4 inches, their waistline by 4 inches, and hips by 3.4 inches.

Based on the Body Mass Index (BMI), 36.21 per cent of Thai men fall within the "normal" category, 58.43 per cent are overweight, and 5.36 per cent are underweight. For Thai women, 42.26 per cent are "normal", 48.05 per cent are overweight, and 9.69 per cent are underweight.

not surprising, since all the things I've noticed in the last 10 years would lead one to the same conclusion this study came to. In all of the gogo bars and party areas in general, the percentage of ladies with slim waistlines has declined as the percentage of chubby girls has increased. Also, from personal experience, my wife's sister is 4'11, her husband is 5'6, yet they have 5 boys, all of them at least 5'11. One of them is 6'2!!!

I think both trends can be attributed to the higher availability of proper nutrition for kids, floowed by a higher availability of bad, fatty western foods. 10 years ago if I wanted to take the family out for dinner they'd all want to go to MK, now it's KFC they want....

My stepdaughter was a skinny little kid when I married my wife, and the food on the table changed from Green mango's and Papayas, eggs and rice, to steak, potatoes, gravy and an assortment of vegs. Stews and soups and vitamins were taken daily.
Milk from cows was in the fridge and sweetened flavored stuff from UHT boxes were thrown out, she is now a head taller than her mother, passed her cousin of the same age who was ahead and now is a taller, slimmer well built young lady and her cousin is a little shorter and fatter of the two. But they are still going to the same school [univ] and live in the same places.
