I'm just sort of wondering about this subject. Because one day I went to school, which is an international school. I wore a head scarf to school and my head master told me it was "forbidden" because it was considers "very rude" in Thai customs. I didn't know this. Because I didn't really live my life in Thailand that long. And during my time in the states, I wore it to school almost everyday and I didn't really understand why was it "rude" to wear it in Thailand. So if anyone have any explanations, I would love to hear and understand it better. Also, my head master is not Thai. He's froom Greece, I think. But one apparent reason I believed in him was because he has been living in Thailand longer than I did.
So any helps would be greatly appreciated. ![]() Patty |

Well broken down to it's simples form, religion is just superstition and fashion is just vanity, To me that makes them equally irrelevant to practicality, so I see fashion is being discriminated against in this case, but not every one wears head gear for fashion, it may be there to keep your head warm or to protect you from the affects of UV radiation from the sun, in other words, superstition overrides practicality, now that's not good. So to me the government is very hypocritical in ones freedoms of liberty.

what do you mean by "head scarf"? if it is not a muslim head scarf, I think schools just usually have strict rules on dress code, for example, no jewellery, no caps and scarfs and in some schools not even jackets other than school uniform. so, probably nothing against the scarf itself, rather, something that is simply not part of student uniform? - just guessing. schools are usually strict about uniforms and don't allow anything extra or any change, no matter how small. btw, I am not Thai, just working in a Thai school for over 2 years now.

In many societies around the world (including schools in America) it is considered rude to wear head covering. In Thailand, you shouldn't wear head covering inside temples or government buildings. They will tell you to take off your cap as you aren't showing the proper respect. However, if you are Muslim then there wouldn't be an objection. Are you Muslim?
Well I study in international school and they allows everything from hair dye, to nail polish, to make up, just everything. If you were at my school you would be sent home. Which just shows you that different schools have different rules. Some schools might be more relaxed about head scarfs. |
