A word about taking wrapped gifts in your luggage. If United States agents decide to inspect your bags before allowing them on the airplane, your beautifully wrapped gifts will be opened. You may be safer taking wrapping paper and ribbons and tape along, and wrapping your gifts after arriving in Thailand.

About the purple, my (Thai) wife says that this color is "broken heart". But that is for the Thai. What color you like you can buy.

Buy them some souvenir T-Shirts from the city you come from.

I live in the U.S. and will be traveling to Thailand in the next month or so and need to bring gifts for about 4 adult women who will be helping us out. I have been told not to spend very much money. I have 2 ideas (see below) that I would appreciate comments on:

1) pressed flower jewelry (real flowers turned into pins or bracelets) I like these since they are a bit more personal and permanent that candy but am worried about what color of flowers is appropriate. I hear that purple is a mourning color? Is that true? What colors would be OK (since I don't want to give the same color to each woman)?

2) See's candy

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks all for the input. Can anyone out there comment on the color issue? Whether it is for jewelry or tshirt or wrapping paper, I don't want to choose an offensive color.

I don't think that the See's chocolates would survive the heat. Chocolate candies--and small quantities at that--are relatively new to Thailand since they can be kept or sold only in air-conditioned stores. Having not developed a taste for chocolates your host may not enjoy it as much as we in the west would.

Four ladies! I thought one would be more than enough as it is!

Forget chocolate as a gift, thats a western thing. Anyway she certainly wouldnt want such a gift that's gonna help her put on an extra few pounds!

Some over types of light candy would be appreciated as long as its foreign.

A nice gift that a Thai would appreciate is something from your hometown. Just like paul_au said there about a souvenir t-shirt.
A picture, a doll, something to stick on the TV, anything like that, that you cant find over here.

The flower jewelry or the tee shirts both sound nice.
Whichever you choose, if the gifts are wrapped VERY
nicely it will mean much to the recipients.
