Most Thai men & women are shorter than Europeans or Americans, though I met Nipa, my wife`s friend who is very cute and maybe slightly taller than I am

![]() Since they started compulsory milk drinking at all schools some years back, I have certainly noticed an increase in height of students. When I first came to Thailand, all of the students were so small. Now a number of the older ones seem to be catching me up quick. Quite a few are certainly taller than the teachers. There are also manty more obese students compared to before. |

Well...maybe those 2 guys are cousins, exceptional height can run in the genes, ..or it coulld be sickness acromegalia ...or something with like name...and they may be living in Bkk. area, but with so many millions people there, you could live there for years and never run into them

I have observed Asian children who have grown up in this country, who have all eaten the same school lunches and fast food as most kids. Some grow larger than their parents, some don't.
I can't say for sure as this is just a personal observation, but size-wise I don't think there is a great difference now in Aisan children who grow up in Asia, and those who grow up in western countries. |

And thanks Paul Au, for your comment, ...but as I just found out on inter-net web, it is the Australians who are reaching new heights in fatness, and setting new world records

I don't know the answer to that. The Thai diet as I have experienced it, has a good balance of meat, vegetables and lots of fresh fruit. Maybe it's the fact that more Thai children are drinking milk?????
![]() ![]() I always made sure that nutrition came first with my kids, yet they are both small adults. So at least sometimes it is genetic. |

And thanks Paul Au, for your comment, ...but as I just found out on inter-net web, it is the Australians who are reaching new heights in fatness, and setting new world records Australia, the USA and UK are all close together at the top of the table for obesity levels so the study conclusions aren't entirely wrong, just exaggerated. There are quite a few precedents for exaggerating in cause of protecting public health backfiring. Obvious cases include "reefer madness" style campaigns causing many younger people to disbelieve all government campaigns about the dangers of illegal drugs. |

Yes, you are right about the cows milk, as dieticians on other webs I am on warn against drinking too much cows milk, for same reasons you mentioned, tough milk does meke for stronger bones, but it was meant for calves to drink and designed for calves` bones development...Actualy most diet/nutrition experts would advise against drinking any cow milk at all, nor eating any dairy products...If you can ressist nibble of good cheeze now and then
