What a coincidence, when I went to Thailand 2 years ago to meet my former girlfriend, it was 7 day's after her 25th birthday. I did not buy her a birthday gift, but I did buy every one in her family a gift that was made in Australia. The Gift I bort my former girlfriend, was a very large Koala teddy, made from genuine Kangaroo fur and hide, it also played an Australian song, I new this gift could only be bort in Australia. The gift was quite expensive, and would cost a few weeks wages for most working people in Thailand. But what I didn't like was the comment from my former girlfriend a couple of day's latter, she told me the gift was expensive and a waist of money, I think she was probably thinking she would have preferred the cash in the hand. But I have a policy of not giving cash to friends, as a test to see if they want you for money or not, in the end she failed the money test, and that's why we are not together today.

Although I would like to be extragent, I simply can not afford to be at this moment. I am not a rich like you paul. The plane tickets them selves have to be saved up for for 3 or 4 months. Thanks for the tips guys. I will probably get her a modestly priced piece of Jewlry and some perfume. |

When buying gifts for people who earn very little money it is important not to spend to much as most will think that the money would have been better spent on food, bills or any other everyday expense.I am not saying that a gift is not appreciated, just to consider how many weeks the particular gift would take the recipient to earn the cost of the gift.My wife will not eat in expensive restaurants as she feels guilty about wasting money when members of her family work long hours and struggle to pay the bills.

Welcome to the club. I used to wrack my brains trying to figure out what to bring my mother and sister in-law when I go to Thailand. here are some suggestions.
1) A higher end watch with a colored face, such as Fossil. If you know her favorite color that's a bonus. 2) An article of clothing such as a nice blouse or sweater. Try and find one that is made in America. 3) Higher end perfume. Not top of the line but, a brand that is percieved as high status. 4) A makeup set that has everything, lipstick, eyeliner, nail polish, the works. Again, color is important here. chok dee |

Most of my Thai friends have very little knowledge of my home country and none of them have ever been there and a afirly cheap alternative that has been very well received in the past has been a guide book about England. Not one with loads of text but rather one with mainly pictures (particularly of your home town).
Not particularly inspirational but it has always gone done very well with people I know. |

I going to Thailand for a holiday during the month of November. During this time a good friend of mine, Sao, will be turing 25. It has been suggested that I should get her a gift. It has also been suggested that the gift come from my homeland (the U.S.) rather than from Thailand. I am horrible at shopping, even more so when it comes to buying for others. Could anyone suggest a good birthday present for a 25 year old Thai woman. I can't think for the life of me what to get her. What could she possibly wan't from the U.S. that she doesn't have in Thailand?
Any suggestions guys? Ladies your thoughts would be appricated too. |
