There is a class distinction that is made based on skin tone. That is why you will see people working outside in the hot sun covered from head to foot. Exposure to sunlight will darken the skin and light skin is prefered. Ladies also use a "lightening cream" to make their skin appear even lighter.

Aowww Delawang I soo very much agree with you. I believe that your wife is very beautiful no matter how dark nor light she is. Everyone and everything has beauty, yet not everyone sees that. Everyone has the ability to see beauty in everything. Perhaps others may have not gotten in touch with the gift....then again they just don't care. One day while my brother and I were shopping together in the mall and I assume in my memory my brother saw maybe a dark skinned Asian girl or maybe just a person that is very very dark for their race and he turned to me and said, "It's wierd how Thailand is obsess with light skin, but in America we are obsess with dark skin." My brother likes to tan a lot and since last year I just wanted to be light. You know a light skinned Asian!!! I even use a lotion to make my skin lighter. I just don't want my skin color to be very very dark because then again someone may mistaken my race for Hispanic, Mexican, however you like to call it etc. instead of an Asian woman. OK girl! LOL hmm..just think back!!!! American use to believe that light skin is more attractive then dark skin, but technology changes and I guess the "ideal beauty" changes too. I use to remember that a lot of guys loved girls with blonde hair and blue eyes. Now some of them still do, but most of them just think it's typical. Now the "darker" version is in. Wierd huh? Me, let's not even talk of what I like!!! LOL haha.

In australia 20 years ago tanned skin was very fashionable and now fair skin is in fashion. In the wast skin colour has alot to do with fashion. When I was in thailand my Xgirlfriend had what she called yellow skin and she told me her girlfriend had honey skin because she was darker, Her friend with honey skin thought she was unattractive, but I used to tell her she had beautiful honey skin.

I am dark enough, and when I was in Thailand it never crossed me if anyone was discriminating me on that account. In case there were biases, they must have evaporated as soon as I begn talking to the other person. For, I really did not get any bad vibes. However, it was quite clear, that my friend who looks almost farang, got all the salutes. But for me that was more a matter of joking about with him than something I considered seriously. I am sure colour biases exist as much as they exist in my own country and I think in most other countries in the world. Just like so many other biases. Some people are lucky to be free of biases. Some are not. And many exhibit biases by habit or ignorance and do not really mean bad. As soon as they are with the person in question, they are exorcised.

I told this to my brother I think around two weeks ago, "It's soo amazing how many people pay just to look good when they don't know to others that they are the most beautifulest creature on this planet!" Well, it was similar to that hehe. I just hope your friend Mel, will understand that beauty is not everything. Sure it captures many people's attention, but the content will keep it that way!

I personally grief over the fact that people are discriminated by the colour of their skin. I am not very well versed in biology but do an Isaan girl have a choice to be born without dark skin, or an indian to be born white?
I have pale skin, regardless, I do cry, laugh, like everybody else. Am I more superior? Tsk Tsk. If being pale skinned, or in any case, possess and certain traits is considered 'special', then I think we are not different from thinking like a Nazi, trying to create a 'superior' race with eugenics. Everyone has their preferences but should let it cloud their judgement. |
