Chief minister J.Jayalalithaa answered 580 questions on Tuesday at a special court outside Parappana Agrahara Prison in a 15-year-old disproportionate assets case.
The AIADMK chief will again appear before the court on Wednesday and may field the remaining 192 questions. The chief minister's counsel Mr B. Kumar said she answered questions relating to companies in which she was a “dormant partner“. She also answered questions on the spend on her estranged foster son Sudhakaran's wedding. “Probably by noon tomorrow [Wednesday], the questioning will be over,” special public prosecutor B.V. Acharya said. According to the prosecution, around `6 crore was spent on Mr Sudhakaran’s wedding, but Ms Jayalalithaa said she did not spend a “single pie” and that the entire expense was borne by the bride’s family. The AIADMK chief said she had no knowledge of acquisitions made by companies in which she was a “dormant partner”. “She said her bank transactions were true. About the accounts of the companies, she pleaded ignorance,” Acharya said. Ms Jayalalithaa, who flew into the city on Tuesday morning, left for Chennai after the proceedings. She had answered 567 questions during her last two depositions on October 20 and 21. -dc chn |
