The CBI, probing alleged violations regarding spectrum allocation between 2001 and 2007, has recorded the statement of former communications minister Dayanidhi Maran on the Aircel-Maxis deal, which took place during his tenure.

According to sources, Mr Maran was quizzed by CBI officials for over four hours at an undisclosed location.

CBI officials were tightlipped about the questioning and even refused to disclose the time, date or venue of his questioning. Earlier this week, the agency had questioned his brother, Mr Kalanidhi Maran, also in connection with the preliminary enquiry (PE) into spectrum allocation during 2001-07, sources added.

CBI officials have already recorded the statement of Mr D. Maran’s former personal secretary, Mr K. Sanjay Murthy, on the alleged Aircel-Maxis deal.

Mr Murthy was an IAS officer (1989 batch) from the Himachal Pradesh cadre.
