Default Veeranam water for Chennai soon
Even as Chennaites are rejoicing over Krishna water reaching Tamil Nadu border, the PWD has already made arrangements to draw water from Veeranam lake.

According to senior PWD officials, water would be drawn from Veeranam lake from July 7. As of now, water is not discharged into the lake in order to draw sand from its foreshores and strengthen the bund of Coleroon river.

The shutters will be lifted and water diverted from Coleroon river into the lake from July 1 and it will get filled in four or five days from then, PWD sources added. The city will be able to draw 180mld (million litres per day) from the lake by the end of the first week of July.

With four city reservoirs in Chembarambakkam, Cholavaram, Red Hills and Poondi having a joint storage of 5.4 tmcft already and the city starting to receive Krishna water uninterrupted water supply is assured for the metropolis for this year.
