Default IRS 2010 Q4: Chennai sees more decline than growth
IRS 2010 Q4 results show that among the 10 dailies in the Chennai market, five have seen decline, four have seen growth, while for one there is no change. Daily Thanthi leads with an AIR of 11.08 lakh, which is a 3.7 per cent decline as compared to the figure of 11.5 lakh in IRS 2010 Q3.
Dinakaran is at number two and has seen a growth of 3 per cent. Its AIR is at 6.58 lakh as compared to Q3’s AIR of 6.39 lakh. English daily The Hindu has seen a decline of 5 per cent and the readership figure has gone down from 5.35 lakh in Q3 to 5.08 lakh in Q4.
At number four is Dinamalar, which, too, has seen a decline of 1.3 per cent. The readership is now at 2.36 lakh as compared to 2.39 lakh in Q3.
On the other hand, The Times of India has gained with a growth of 2.2 per cent. The AIR is now at 1.9 lakh from 1.86 lakh in Q3.
Among the top 10 dailies, Dinamani has seen a decline of 21.3 per cent, while Eenadu has seen a decline of 22.2 per cent. However, for The New Indian Express it has been a growth story and the paper been the highest gainer among the top 10 dailies with a growth of 18.8 per cent.
