Problem is they're expensive
For a (sort of) cheap alternative, someone one of the boards here said among military types, super glue is often used as a blister patch, IIRC there was a bit of technique (but not complicated) for applying it. You can probably find it easily enough with a search, I'm at work or I'd search for it and post a link.

I haven't found anything besides cleaning and patching the blister and developing a "sole-thick" callous so it takes longer next time, but maybe some foot protection could work to prevent this injury... in my case it's almost mandatory in our dojo, as we share the place with other groups, and they don't always care to keep the floor in good order, so sometimes we've even got hurt with splinters in broken floor boards...

I found this page with a foot protector...
http://www.ninecircles.co.uk/erol.ht...ogle%26meta%3D

and another model at e-bogu's kendo > kendo protector section

... hope it's useful for someone else!

You are right, they do not hold through rigorous training. As I am practicing kendo and karate and the later forces you to slide your feet even more than in kendo, I got conditionned quite rapidly. I now still lose some skin, but it is not painful anymore! I basically stopped taping my feet and just dealt with the pain. Now it is all good!
i have had a few sessions when i forgot to tape my feet and cleaning up the blood was not very nice. it also meant that i couldnt do iaido straight after kendo. now i tape my feet every training session and hope my skin stays intact. i am also trying hard to improve my footwork, probably the key to not getting blisters.

Luckily I live in the tropic, and in a casual ambiance, so wearing leather flip flops, helps to keep my feet rough!

also, correcting the way I slide my foot helped.
After an extenous Dou practice, its very easy to blister your feet, if incorrect technique is used.

A kendoka friend, suggested that I try cheap public bath soap, because it dries your skin, I have not tried it yet.

hope this helps!

I have seen many post about blister, but no one has mentioned using a pumic stone at the end of a shower to remove dead skin. I have also found the pumice stone to energize the skin and it seems to help the healing.

I just set the stone at the botom of the shower and go over the feet at the end. Small circles over the whole foot.

There are also soaps that have abrasive additives in them that can help.

Good luck.

Perfect timing! I just got a blister on my toe (the big one) and its not bad at all. I wouldn't mind trying to use that blister band-aid thing, but I haven't seen it around stores. So I'll keep looking.
Well you could try Elastoplast Blister patches! You need to apply it to the blister right away, while it is still bleeding. After cleaning it though! It holds pretty well! I tried it on my big toe and it stuck. It should hold up to 7 days. You can shower and bath with it, no problem! The only place under the foot where it doesn't work that well is on the ball of the foot right behing that big toe. The part I am talking about is the part on which we pivot in karate! So the patches stayed on during kendo, but not during my karate lesson!

A search will probably bring something up, and we did also cover it in great detail in the Kendo Clinic article in Issue 1.4.

Hey Banza Joe,

No apologies needed, i think it could be more than helpful to me too! Actually, I never got such dramatic blisters as yours!!! Ouch!!! I have been doing martail arts for quite some time so my feet are rather well conditioned! Seems like it will be a life long problem, but there is hope I get them now rarely and they are not as serious as when I started! But blisters the are one hell of a pain in the... foot! :-( (lame joke) Your right, powder will make your feet slippery however, you need your feet to be slightly slippery otherwise it makes it hard to glide on the floor! The downside is that it might be tricky to be able to stay on your own two feet while doing fumi-komi! I'll try the powder and let you know how it works! My reply is not really helpful for you but I am looking forward at reading a reply that might give us a little more insights!

Cheers and thanks for bringing up this issue!
