I can see the August picture now - Satsuma and Rottenpunk hiding each others' parts with bogu... Are you thinking both of them hiding in the same bogu, or in separate ones? Because the first alternative would be so much funnier. ![]() On a serious note: Even though this started as a joke I actually think this is a nice idea. I for one would like a kendo/iai/jodo calender if it meets high standards of "photoshopping". If I can come up with the nerves I'll ask a girl from my dojo if I can use either this(jodo), or this(iaido) pic of her thats on our dojo website. |

Unfortunately both those pics are 72 res where 300 is needed. Also the first one is copyrighted.
if it meets high standards of "photoshopping". Here's a quick, slap-dash portfolio of mine: http://www.arwenspics.741.com (sorry about the popups). Soon I'm going to be preparing a proper portfolio for submission to a publishing company. Having done this calendar will go down well ![]() I for one would like a kendo/iai/jodo calender So, come up with a name then! ![]() |

If it would be a kendo calender I'd say the name could be: (The World Of) Kendo; United as One..... or sumtin like that.
Your photoshopping isnt that bad but this guy ( a Polish kendoka living in Scotland) is definately better; based on the link you gave me (no offence). Check out some of his kendorelated stuff. I know the res is off but stil.... Frozen Kendo Kendo NoName Kendo Yoshinkan Also check some of his other work. I like it alot. If someone that is serious about the calender could contact him; his name is Mariusz Mickiewicz. He is both a kendoka and a prof graph designer. CHeers |

Yeah, that's full on graphic design/illustration/retouching, professional-like. I know some of my stuff looks a little ordinary but Southern Justice is more the likes of where my stuff is at now. Problem is, looks like this guy does it professionally. I'm not sure you realise just what we'd be asking a professional to do - a book cover on the extremely cheap is about forty plus hours and two grand American.
I know I'm being a bit selfish here but all my stuff so far is roleplaying related and I'd love to do something for kendo but got no pics, no inspiration. I guess the calendar gave me that which I'd been looking for. Hey, how about we throw it open, share the workload? There's plenty of artists on the forum and I can't be the only one who works with pics, surely? Southern Justice took me about fifteen hours and by the time it's truly finished it'll be about twenty plus. I'm just really funny about asking a professional to do it for free. You're right though, that guy is way better but I'm a hobbiest, not a professional. |

But I thought that the basic premise is worth considering. From where I see it we need the following ![]() |

Feh, I don't see why you should have to be in bogu. In fact, the pictures would have too much of a 'same-ness'. Some in hakama and kendogi would be cool. Hell, be in a teeshirt and trakkies for all i care - i'm sure most of us started off there (or are still there...) *clutches his head in agony* Being serious hurts my head! |

but it should be themed towards those arts. Absolutely. I was never suggesting that it shouldn't be but someone in a good pose wearing their gi and hakama looks just as cool as someone in bogu.
I also had an idea for the name - "Swords and Sticks" 'kendoka, iaidoka and jodoka from around the world' (is jodoka the right word? I know nothing about jodo). I'm also gonna look into international bodies covering disabled athletes over the next week. *clutches his head in agony* Being serious hurts my head! Aww, poor luv. You're doing very well. ![]() |

Thanks for the (mostly) sensible comments on this idea.
I think we may have something which is possible but it is apparent that there are a few things to resolve. If I may be so bold I think we have the following as confirmed..
I think we have two people who seem happy to do the 'putting together' stuff for the calendar Newbie - Artwork ScottUk - to do the DTP (not sure what this includes - I guess I am hoping that it means collating any artwork done by Newbie into a format that is "calendar" like) I think we have a few people who are happy to get pics done- this seems to be....Solinde, Newbie, Commander, Nakura, Andy Watson, Alison2805, Stephanie Dee, Yohed55?, Rurouni Kenshin, and I suppose I better do my bit. I was hoping for a few more - America, Germany, France, Japan, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Morrocco, Russia, Indonesia, and everyone else...where are you? Show some team spirit guys and more than a little participation. I think we need to resolve some things like Do we need to put key dates on the calendar and if so how shall we decide which dates apply? My own view is that we should not put key dates on because as Solinde (i Think?) said, different countries have different dates that are important to them. But this is only my view and I welcome others to have their say. That if we produce a calendar then any proceeds from any sales should go to charityThis was my own proposal but I now think it should be down to each individual to decide what they should do with any proceeds. I think it would be useful to identify a charitable cause that we can all contribute to should we prefer donating to charity but I think this should be down to each of us to decide really. Again would like some comment so that we can move on. Starting day? Ermm I am not fussed which day is used as a starting day for each week - Sunday or Monday seems fine to me. Co-ordination point I just thought of this. we need someone to send all the pictures to and to select a random selection that is best reflective of the arts we do. My gut reaction is to nominate Newbie and/or ScottUK. I am happy also happy to volunteer but would not do it without others agreeing. Of course another way is to have a central 'collection point' for the pictures - this person could hold all pictures received until an agreed deadline and then distribute them round an agreed 'panel' to try to choose the best, most relevant pictures to what we do. Timescale We have 10 months till 2007. we need to get any finshed product ready by..........? When? I think I need to know hwo long artwork and collation could take? and then I would need a time line for possible slippage? This is all I could think of for now. I really think we could do this and I really now think we SHOULD do this. What have we got to lose? Nothing. We spend a bit of time on a project which is linked to what we all care about greatly and with luck, a bit of work, determination and perseverance we may produce something worthwhile. And if nothing else we may enjoy doing it and have experienced something new from the effort.....and life is all about living and learning. If I could get as many comments as possible by two weeks form this post date and then I will try to collate your thoughts and re-post with what I hope will be some kind of agreement on how to proceed (or not) Regards Lee |
