Im not looking for exact states, maybe even places that you would recommend, i liked Florida but i heard theres hurricanes there alot so

Thanks all.
Hurricanes should be the least of your worries. Don't come to South Florida. It's ridiculously expensive, my dad just got his car stolen clean off his driveway, and most of the people are rude and in a hurry.

Ohh sorry to hear that we've had our car stolen once about 10 years ago.

Im not really fussy about which state or town just somewhere with a nice climate, clean and safe. Doesn't have to be a city

Quite like Mississippi, South Carolina, only because i've been to these places.

P.S hurricanes and tornadoes are a problems because we dont get them here and i dont wanna have to rebuild my house every year and lose money.

Tupelo is pretty small but it has grown significantly in the last 20 yrs ... I think the population is probably somewhere around the 50,000 mark by now. It's relatively close to a major city (Memphis (kendo!), ~110 mi. away).

It's not a bad place at all.... There are things to do there, but I don't know to what extent... read: night life (because I don't know what you're into). Obviously, being a small city, it doesn't offer all the big city stuff, but that's to be expected. You might trying doing an internet search on the town to see what's going on down there.

My mother grew up there when the population was around 5000 people.

It's pretty clean, fairly safe (from my understanding) (although there does seem to be some stereotypical redneck/white trash elements to be found.. but what southern town doesn't have that?)... and yes.. it's warm. It's HOT. AFRICA HOT in the summers. Rarely get snow in the winters.

Oh, it's also about ~80-100 mi. away from all the casinos and stuff in Tunica.

... The next major city (in my mind) would be Jackson, MS.

(btw, I'm unaware of any kendo in the state of Mississippi. Memphis is the closest thing).

No disrespect for anyone from or living in Mississippi, but it's not an area of the States that I'd jump at personally (there are a lot of others I wouldn't jump at either..lol). Of course I might have said the same thing about where I am now in Research Triangle Park area (which includes Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary NC) if I was still living in Cali. Obviously there must be nice areas of Mississippi and pretty much every State. However, it does get very hot and humid there. I have heard that Tupelo isn't a bad place from friends, although I've never been there. Like I said, the Triangle area is pretty nice, and has a nice mix of people (it's a large percentage of people from other areas and nations due to the 3 major universities here, also it is within an easy drive to either the mountains or beaches).. Parts of So Cal and Nor Cal are very nice but typically a LOT more pricey. Since you are looking for someplace that doesn't get too cold for too long that leaves out huge sections of the midwest, northeast and northwest. In addition Oklahoma, Texas and even Mississippi do have tornado and other weather problems, but it's not like it's every year or anything. I suggest that once you get over here you try going to visit some areas at different times of year to see what you like. Also go to city search and look at restuarants and clubs etc for cities and surrounding areas you may be interested in to see what they offer.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah MS is very laid back, flat and not alot goes on compared to SC although i did like Charlotte, NC flew in there and it seemed like Glasgow lol. I bet the tax and house prices are high there though and outside city limits

Mississippi is a "poor state" generally speaking. The education system is not stellar on a state-wide scale, but there are some good schools. The cost of living there is pretty low, even by southern standards. They have a state income tax (unlike Tennessee and Florida, for example). Overall, it's a rural state with a long history of farming (which is still pretty true today), which is why it carries the reputation it does. Mississippians DO wear shoes (I promise).

Jackson, MS is as much a "big city" (with everything that comes with that) as an Orlando, FL or a Nashville, TN or a Charlotte, NC. You spoke of Tupelo earlier --- it has HUGE hospitals there and some very good services, although, they sometimes will send some patients to Memphis for some things. (I forget what the main hospital in Tupelo's speciality is)...

So... "way of life" in Mississippi just depends on where you go. Olive Branch and Southaven are pretty small towns only 15-20 mins away from BIG ASS MEMPHIS... You're just as likely to find $300,000 homes there as Memphis (although $300,000 there will get you almost twice as much house as you can get in Memphis).

Charlotte is not a bad place to live... house prices are no where near what parts of Cali and some other areas (like NYC, Wash D.C area, Philly, Boston etc etc) have in store ...lol.. But I do think Charlotte has a bit more crime that the RTP area (it's about 2-2.5 hours drive to Charlotte from where I am in RTP).

Mississippi is the poorest state in the US. Poor as in the lowest per capita income. Education standards are low (for students elementary to high school). Way of life is slower. Healthcare is better in the cities in Mississippi. But, if you need a specialist or special medical care, you might have to travel far.

So, compared to England, Mississippi is a lap of luxury.

Im in Scotland, not now but i am from there, on business for one more day then heading home. I do miss it up north and i've only been away 3 days lol

Scotland has a good quality of life in my opinion i live in a town 17 miles from the biggest city here which has everything.

BTW... North Carolina CAN be pricey, but it's really beautiful and the geography is great for everything .... 2-3 hours east and you're on a beach... 2-3 hrs west and you're in the mountains. Nice, clean towns (in my experience)... lots of state troopers (cops) on the highways, last I remember... Carolina, though, can be subject to hurricanes on one side and snow snow snow on the other... (again, just depends on where you are)... Mike would have to speak more on that.

I think the overall picture of the south can be summed up like this:

There are a lot of little towns all over the place that are pretty safe and good weather and can be found within a decent driving distance of some major metropolitan areas; cost of living, as already mentioned, is pretty good all over the south.

If you want to use your A&P license for work, then I'd say let that be your guide. There are some wonderful, beautiful areas on the outskirts of Atlanta (and they have a huge airport)... same with Memphis (huge airport and FedEx)... same with Louisville, KY (good airport and UPS)... same with Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham NC .... Dallas/Ft Worth TX

... AND.... all those towns have established kendo schools....

Just some thoughts.. It's a big country over here, y'know? Lots and lots and lots of options.

Yeah its just trying to decide, the tax over there is VERY complicated compared to here, everything is deducated from your payslips automatically and i have to pay only Government tax and my pension.

Id hate to live in a money bleeding state when i could go somewhere else and get my money goes alot further.

Outskirts of Charlotte - nice

Mississippi - Nice

Never been to any other states so i'd need to snoop around lol

I have one of the most inexpensive houses in Nags Head, N.C. at $400,000. (bought it years ago, really cheap and remodeled it)
It is not uncommon to have beach houses in the $2,000,000 + range.
There is no industry and only service jobs.
3 TO 5 hurricanes per year.
Next town is Kitty Hawk where Orville and Wilbur learned to fly. If you can land there you can land anywhere.
Best surf in the Eastern U.S.
Gulf Stream is 30 mile offshore so lots of big game fishing as well as tuna and dolphin (mahi-mahi)

Beach front? No, that lot costs at least a million without a house on it. I'm the fourth row back.
And before you start envying me, don't. I don't go there much anymore.
It's all kind of relative you know.

Somewhere after Conway.
then the worlds your oyster.

like its been said in previous posts about america, its just way too diverse to simplify state by state in the exact demographics youve listed. they all have some sort of poverty, crime, luxury and project housing, good and bad roads.... too much to generalize by a state. weather is somewhat relative too. the southeast is going to have hurricanes. its honestly not a big deal. just stay at home and dont drive through one, youll be fine. unlike an earthquake, you get days of warning to know ahead of time.

but it sounds to me you want to just find a nice suburban area. you can find them around any major city. US economy is so commercial that youll find mega shopping centers, movie theatres, grocery stores, kmart, walmart and target in any area that is convenient and where ppl live within a 10-20 minute drive. being close to a bigger city allows more opportunity to go into the city at night for fun and diversity.
