Default Horror Movies
Dearest Movie Lover,

Prompted by another thread, I have been considering horror films and how much I get myself terrified by them for no reason. I just switch off my disbelief sensors and go with the flow...

So, questions:

Q1 - What was the last film you watched that scared the crap out of you?
Q2 - What film stills scares you years after you have seen it?

My answers:

Q1 - The Descent
Q2 - Halloween I & II

Awooga Guy recently had the good fortune to watch this trashy but funny B-movie:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...lance&n=283926

It was... just, wow.

That is all.

1. It
2. It
Some time ago, I had just finished reading 'It' when I put a film on the VHS (remember them?) and one of the trailers was for 'It'. I didn't even know the film had been made, but seeing Pennywise cartwheel towards the camera made my hair stand on end... he looked just how I pictured him in the book.

That was one of the scariest moments in my life... just really surreal to see the book character on my TV...

Not sure about the last fim that scared me (it's been a while since I saw anything too scary).

So...

1. ?

2. Jaws. I saw that film when I was very young and it had a lasting impact on me i.e. frightened me sh*tless. Although I always get that feeling in my stomach when I watch it, it has to be one of may favourite films of all time.

Don't get me wrong, I like zombie films. They just don't scare me.

1. "The Grudge" (US. version)

2. Hmmmm.....I'd probably also go with "Steven King's It". Although recently I was talking with someone about how when you watch the old scary movies now, they look really fake and just make you laugh. Maybe I should watch it again so I laugh and then I can go near drains again.

The exorcism of Emily Rose gave me chills like 3 times so I would have to say it was the last. But the Grudge did make me jump at least once.

Alien spooked the hell out of me back in the day.

Anyone see 'Silent Hill'? It was described as 'not a horror, but a nightmare thriller...'

Nope, but I do have to go to the store to pick up a prescription, so I might just stop by blockbuster. I'll let you know if Silent Hill was as spooky as the hype.

I have been avoiding it so I don't have to suffer the same level of disappointment I got from watching the Resident Evil films.

I liked the Resident Evil films, low budget, decent plot, lots of game crossover reference points, and tons of gratuitous violence, what more could be expected? It was more action than horror anyways.

I think that horror movies are one of the hardest geners to make. there is a fine line between scary and preposterous ( taste and budget).

but a couple that made uneasy were:
  • the believers (an american couple returns home from africa, wtih more baggage than they started)
  • the rainbow and the serpent (about an incredulous researcher dragged down into voodoo world)
  • the exorcist ( i still recall the piano soundtrack)

It wasn't that I didn't like them, I just thought that with the first one was a bit slow to get into and didn't really make use of the excellant story lines in the videogame series. The second was much better (with a superb realisation of The Nemesis).

I agree that they were more action than horror but they should have been more of an even mix of the two.
