Default What can be done and can't be done.
Hello. I'm Narrakan. Or you may call me Criss if you so choose. I joined this forum to talk over with all of you about different fighting styles for each of the weapons.

Now I was reading a thread shortly before I joined on the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū style of fighting. Now as many of you agree this style can't be performed due to the speed needed for each technique. But there was one man who kinda ticked me off for he said that this style was impossible to pull off. That is not entirely true. Example.

Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū: Battojutsu Hiryūsen (Flying Dragon Flash) is a move performed by everyone's beloved Pacifist Samurai. Kenshin Himura. Now this technique actually can be pulled off for all that is used and quoted from Wikipedia.

Beginning with the sword still sheathed, the swordsman thrusts his arm outward, flicking the tsuba of the sword with his thumb at the same time. The sword is flung out of the sheath at high speed to strike the opponent. A technique with power on the same order of the Douryūsen.

Now this attack can be pulled off. It just will be slower then Kenshin's. Another one that can actually be pulled off to a degree. But I wouldn't suggest it be used due to in the fedual era if you tried that you're head would quickly be rolling from your shoulders.

Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū: Ryūkansen (Dragon Spiral Strike)

A swing that takes advantage of the entire body's turning motion to dodge an enemy's attack or to bypass an enemy's defense, striking immediately after. This is best used at a counter-attack.

Now that is another move that is able to be pulled off. Okay. I feel I have proven my point. Now I do not care if you call me a kenshin fan or anything because actually I don't like Kenshin. I prefer Sagara Sanosuke due to him wielding a Zanbato which is my favorite weapon next to a Sakabato and a Halberd.

Now the post that this thread was referring to is..

SPLICE:The art doesn't exist. The techniques don't exist. This is all fiction, even the author of the manga said so. There is nothing to teach, and a list of "possible moves" is ridiculous and on the same level as twirling sticks in your backyard; it has nothing to do with swordsmanship and everything to do with teenage fantasies.

I want this art to be so rare that I don't ever want to hear one person say they practice it or teach it. So rare that even you shouldn't ever speak of it and you should keep these silly ideas to yourself. The only part of your message worth reading is when you say you are uttering nonsense, and there I agree completely. You should stop that. Okay..

Perhaps because youve put this on a kendo forum? That may have something to do with it.

One day you might be moved to enter a real dojo and learn. That will only happen after you throw out all these fantasies and ready yourself to start at the bottom. It will be hard work but it will be real.

Is there a fall break or something in the US Schools? Because the Sword Masters are coming out of the wood work. Working on their own style no less. All this at the tender age of 16. You don't happen to have some footage of your own style do you? Post it here and we will give you guidance how to perform those tricky flicks and stuff. Dame Rottun is having a slow time lately and this would make her day, and the day after and after and after.............

Hello. I'm Narrakan. I'm a bloody fool who has come somewhere where people take kendo seriously to tell people why I think a made up comic book is real.

I am a tit and should be regarded and conversed with as such.

Thank you
Seconded! Tit!

Wow. Nice to see there are twits here also. And i'm not saying that Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu is a real style.. I'm just saying that some of the techniques can be done. But not to the extent that Kenshin cause due to it being a anime/manga. And my uncle is helping me make my style. Right now I'm in the research phase.

I don't suppose this is the time to tell you all that I'm trying to develop Makashi style by watching video sequences of Count Dooku over and over?

No, because you are trying to convince us that Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu could be real, and because you are making up a style ofyour own with your uncle. That is why.

No. I am not saying that Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu is a real style. Not once have I said that. I've been saying that some of the techniques can be performed. But not like Kenshin performs them.

Beginning with the sword still sheathed, the swordsman thrusts his arm outward, flicking the tsuba of the sword with his thumb at the same time. The sword is flung out of the sheath at high speed to strike the opponent. A technique with power on the same order of the Douryūsen. Of course you can to this technique. It is about as specific as saying "Cut the guy with your sword...". That technique exists in a large amount of iaido-kata, just without the "spitting fire thoriugh the dragons butt"-names.

You have two options:
1) Go practice with your uncle and have fun, but don't expect anyone who actually practices something real will give you a big hug when you go to their forums to talk about it.
2) Drop the idea of your own school and start doing some real stuff like kendo, iaido or kenjutsu.

The Right Honorable Count Gibbo said "Tit" not "Twit". Proper nomenclature is very important, even if you are researching or god forbid making up your own style. Before you know it you got the techniques mixed up and we can't have that can we?
But I second Gibbo's motion, and the more you post the less you're gonna like it.

I don't suppose this is the time to tell you all that I'm trying to develop Makashi style by watching video sequences of Count Dooku over and over?

Any time is a good time as long as you post footage of these Makashi ryu. Provided you can stand the heat.
