Hmm... just for balance...
The first ever Police use of a taser in public in the Uk was against a man wielding a Samurai sword... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/low/uk_news/...re/3144249.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/5062822.stm |

The unnamed 29-year-old man, from Kettering, ....
....A knife and a Samurai sword were recovered from the scene of the arrest. A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wielding a samurai sword and making threats to kill by police using a Taser stun gun. A weapon was recovered close to the scene of the arrest, she added. Well he wasn't wielding the sword at the time and by the sounds of things the sword wasn't in reach either. Still if your running around town threating to kill people you most probably need a good jolt. |

On the subject of tasers.
I am reliably informed that one of the Police trainers on the use of Tasers got a colleague to use one on him so he could more accurately describe what happens to the Perp. when it is used on them. Aren't British Police wonderful? And can't you all sleep more soundly knowing this? |

Actually I wasn't being sarcastic.
I do think though, what kind of loony does that kind of thing. And how did he get recruited by the Police? Makes you think. And the "cant you sleep...blah blah" was aimed more at my bottomless pit of usless trivia. On seciond thoughts it probably looks better if I say I was being sarcastic. No wait - I am going for.......................sardonic. Yep that'll do. |

Well, I don't know about the UK, but American cops go through getting sprayed in the face with pepper spray so that they are better aware of what the stuff does to you. It seems to me like how you learn weapon techniques in aikido so that you can counter them, among other things. Doesn't seem all that crazy to me. I mean, my sensei gave me a good, strong incorrect kote hit the other day to give me a good idea of what I would encounter in my 16 and up mudansha division in the upcoming tournament (I assume that was among the reasons that he did so. I don't presume to know my sensei's motivations. He may have just wanted to hit me really hard. )
