There is no competition between the iai/jo bu and the kendo bu. The two should coexist blissfully... Ohmigod. I have just realised how cleverly put together these sentences are.
Deliciously naughty.

Well if you can add accessibility for not much extra fuss then you should. Actively choosing not to do so opens you up for discrimination proceedings if someone cares to pursue it.

Anyway the site is much better, easier to access the information at least and the black colour scheme is quite sophisticated. It could do with some nice photos though. I was goign to write a thread about how such a visually striking subject is so under-represented. Those websites I looked at that were good really benefitted from good photos so why isn't more been made of this. Big pictures of people in bogu look cool full stop. People wanting to do kendo and aspire to be like those cool people in the weird armour will only feel that way if they see the pictures.

I personally think there should be a BKA web strategy, to help all clubs, offer some basic templates that can help promote a club. That way they can choose to invest in their own site or use one with a decent level of quality that will reflect well on the BKA as a whole. Even if it was exactly the same style as the BKA one at least there would be a continuity. The Edinburgh website is similar [I wonder why ] but still maintains it's own identity so any club website could tailored to them.

I often thought Evelyn Glennie was hot in a weird mental percussionist kind of way.

remember it's not really the website that defines how big it appears on your screen. If i reach a website where fonts seem really small a quick CTRL and + increases the font size(on most browsers a i believe) or some other permutation like CTRL and the + twice or CTRL and your mouse scroll wheel etc etc

Agreed, the font seems small,
In the layer wikileft the font is "font-size:smaller" That is really too small, but i reckon that was the only option for all the links included so its fair game.
The other option would be to make all the links hierarchial as javascript pop outs etc or css rollovers with hidden frames etc...

I resemble that remark.

I have next to nothing to do during work apart from ogle my students I'd be in on helping put together something like that.

Since Kendo clubs tend to be group efforts, the wiki format works really well for Kendo club websites. We started doing that at UCL because I was leaving and it would be easier for whoever wanted to update if they didn't have to go through me (extremely lazy) but could edit directly. Turned out that gibbo and everyone got in on the act and the amount of content has grown exponentially since.

Also, it may be superfluous for some kendo clubs, but having a forum has really helped us. Its a good in a number of ways. You can lecture people, help them out if they have questions and generally be in constant contact with all members of your club. You can also have secret forums for inner circle only discussions (or basically make fun of your more socially inept members). Only issue is that it requires at least one compsi geek to maintain it.

So yeah, open invitation to anyone kendo related who wants a website done/set up for them... PM me and I'll do it for free, or at least point you in the right direction.

I don't think the links are "too small" - they just appears to be though. It's either the light, uncontrasty colour that makes it that way or the tight line-height as a column (hmm I should say "solid leading")...

I just wikified it to help the people who maintain it do so... if they want to modify it in anyway, then they can.... change fonts, add accessibility, post big pics etc etc

The skin used is a 98% unmodified one from already created ones. I didnt realise they didnt have alt tags on the links. Sorry, im obviously an idiot.

Its not in competition with the Iai/Jo site and am pretty suprised that it was brought up. Nobody said to me "make it better than theirs" or anything of the sort. In fact, I volunteered full stop. I had 2 weeks free over xmas, and did the change and update in a couple of those.

Dwezs comment about BKA Strategy for helping clubs was something I had started to implement back in 2000.... we offered free hosting and templates for dojo (it was in the newsletter i believe) but only 1 club ever took it up.

I dont think the main bka site needs to be graphically intensive, as its only an information provider. I think the individual clubs do a great jobs themselves of visually experssing kendo, iai, and jo. Maybe the bka will decide to make it more graphic intensive, I dont know.

Tough luck yourself...... Means what?

Sorry, been off the newsletter list for 9 years It astounds me you had such little interest especially with free hosting included - quite often one of the biggest stumbling blocks. It's a shame as there are quite a few clubs who don't have a web presence which would benefit.

So, are you volunteering?
Well I'm doing 'something' in Flash [it's my medium guys], its simple, clean and if I can brush up on certain bits I may be able to make it dynamic enough for anyone to adjust in a .txt file. Otherwise there will have to be just and open source version for folks to adjust if they have the software or I can tweak it if need be. I'll offer it to my dojo first but if they're not interested it will be freely available.

Every bka member gets the newsletter so, yeah, I was suprised too. I cant remember if it was in the newsletter or posted on the main page in the site... a lots happened in my life since 2000/2001!

Good luck with the flash thing and let us know if any dojo take it up.
